It’s been a little over five years since we all got to see the bad guy shed his programming and save the day in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a return to the digital world and we finally have some new information coming out of the studio to include a title and very brief synopsis. Not only has the studio leaked some information about the sequel, they have released the names of the creative folks who will be bringing us back to the world of Pac-Man, Q-Bert, Dig-Dug and a whole lot more.
Dave Hollis, the head of distribution at Walt Disney Studios provided few details when he spoke at CinemaCon on March 28th about the Wreck-It Ralph sequel, but he did let the world in on the title: Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. It seems that the characters who have been bleeping and blooping in the arcade for the past 40 years are making the leap through the power strip and right into the Internet.
Rich Moore (Zootopia, The Simpsons, and Futurama), the director of the first film, had this to say at the event:
“To take these characters we love and have them enter the enormous world of the internet has given us so much to explore,” said Moore. “Our production team has been hard at work designing a world that takes something we all think we know – the internet – but shows it in a whole new, imaginative way.”
Phil Johnston (Zootopia, The Brothers Grimsby, and Cedar Rapids) had a little more to say as well:
“We’re so excited to be working with Ralph, Vanellope von Schweetz, Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun again, and we have new characters we look forward to unveiling. At the center of this film, as in the first one, is the relationship between Ralph and Vanellope, two once-outcasts, who in each other, found true friendship.”
Additionally, it was revealed that the creative team from the first film is returning for the sequel. Alongside Moore will be writer Phil Johnston (Zootopia, The Brothers Grimsby, and Cedar Rapids) and producer Clark Spencer (Zootopia, Bolt, and Lilo & Stitch). While not all of them have been confirmed as of the writing of this article, Jane Lynch (Sergeant Calhoun), Jack McBrayer (Fix-It Felix), Sarah Silverman (Vanellope von Schweetz), and John C. Reilly (Wreck-It Ralph) will all return to reprise their roles from the first film. Other actors who have been confirmed for the picture are James Corden, Phil Johnston (Surge Protector), and Jodi Benson.
The following actors have been rumored to return as well:
Rich Moore (Sour Bill) and Alan Tudyk (King Candy).
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 will hit theaters on 9 March, 2018. The film will be produced and released by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
