As Disney continues their live-action remake trend, they are rolling out all the hits. Given the massive success of hits like The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, Disney is in no mood to slow down. Next on their plate is a live-action remake of 1994 classic The Lion King. The new film will be directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book), the film will use the same cutting edge CGI technology used in The Jungle Book. The film also has already cast Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones returning to his role of Mufasa. It looks like they possibly have found their Nala.
Variety reports that megastar Beyoncé is director Jon Favreau’s first choice for the role. She hasn’t yet confirmed the role, but it’s hers for the taking. Beyoncé’s career has been primarily in singing, first with the girl group Destiny’s Child, and then a massively successful solo career. She has dabbled into acting before, starring in Austin Powers in Goldmember, The Fighting Temptations, 2006’s The Pink Panther, Dreamgirls, Cadillac Records, Obsessed, and providing voicework for 2013’s Epic.
Nala was previously voiced by Moira Kelly (Twin Peaks) and the singer Sally Dworsky provided the voicework for songs in the animated classic. Given the nature of all the classic musical songs, it’s a no-brainer that she might be a good choice for the film as she could do the voicework and the singing for the remake. Beyoncé is currently taking some time off as she is pregnant with twins and surely will have albums and tours on her schedule. However, how can you pass up being in The Lion King?
