Admittedly the 5 minute photoshop job above does blow the lead on this, but yes, set your phasers to beets ’cause it looks like Dwight Schrute will be entering the final frontier. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting (as they do) that Rainn Wilson (known mostly for his time on the NBC hit The Office and less so for The Rocker) will join CBS’s forthcoming Star Trek: Discovery as one of the franchises most interesting characters and one from the original series no less. Harcourt Fenton Mudd!
For the uninitiated the character, better known as Harry Mudd, was/is a intergalactic grifter and charismatic space-con-man extraordinaire and was the man foil in two classic episodes from the original series (Mudd’s Women and I, Mudd) as well as an episode from the animated one (Mudd’s Passion.)
While it is currently unknown how many episodes Rainn will be apart of in the new series the one thing is for certain, the two hit combo of is Emmy nominated acting chops and that he is playing such a scene stealing character, this new iteration of Harry Mudd will be something for deep core fans and average casuals to look forward too. My only regret is that it is too early to start asking for a spinn-off. Look, I want to expound the many knowable facts about space-bears and brag about his Klingon Krav Maga skills on a weekly basis, is that so wrong?
Star Trek: Discovery, which also stars Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green is Rainsford, a lieutenant commander and focus of the show as well as Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp and James Frain as Sarek, a Vulcan scientist and Spock’s father, is set to debut on CBS before moving to All Access, the brands digital streaming service, sometime later this year.
