Robert Kirkman is slowly turning into his own Stan Lee. His most famous comic, The Walking Dead, centering on the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, is one of cable TV’s highest-rated dramas and is about to go into its 7th season on AMC. The supernatural horror story Outcast focusing on demonic possession is about to start its second season on Cinemax this month. His production company Skybound Entertainment which has produced both TV show as well as other projects, including a remake of An American Werewolf in London. And it looks like they aren’t slowing down anytime soon as another one of his properties is being adapted, this time for the big screen.

Kirkman’s second-longest comic series, Invincible, is going to be adapted into a feature-length movie by Universal. The series focuses on a Mark Grayson the son of Omni-Man, an alien superhero and one of the most power beings on Earth. Grayson inherits his father’s superhuman abilities and vows to follow his footsteps and protect Earth. Rogen and Goldberg, who also produce AMC’s Preacher are shooting for an R-Rated film given the recent success of such films as Deadpool and Logan as well as the subject matter of the comic. Kirkman is more than excited about bringing the project to the big screen.

“For nearly a decade I’ve had to endure the ‘what about Invincible?‘ question as fans have watched The Walking Dead grow into the multi-media monstrosity it has become over the years. The answer was always that we were waiting for the right team to partner with. That team has arrived! The esteemed misters Goldberg and Rogen have proven themselves to be top-notch directors with a keen collective eye for stunning visuals after slumming it by writing hit after juggernaut hit. Invincible’s surprising, edgy, shocking, and oftentimes blood-soaked story couldn’t be in more capable hands. With the team of Rogen, Goldberg and Universal, I’m very confident this will be another superhero movie, in a long line of superhero movies that continues to prove that it’s a viable, thrilling genre that will keep people coming to the cinema for years to come.”

The film is currently in development, so we don’t know who will be playing Grayson as of yet. However, given the popularity of the comic and Kirkman’s track record, this is sure to be a hit.
