When we last left the movie Superman, he was dead. Spoiler alert, but the Man of Steel, as portrayed by Henry Cavill, was killed in his heroic battle against Doomsday at the end of Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. But because the world needs a Superman, it fell to TV’s Supergirl to fill the void. In the second season premiere of the CW superhero show, Teen Wolf co-star Tyler Hoechlin appeared as the titular character’s cousin, and such was the tremendousness of the appearance that Hoechlin will be returning to the show in time for the season finale.
E!Online has evidently confirmed through their sources that Hoechlin will be appearing in the May 22 season ender of Supergirl, but other details, like what brings Superman back to National City, are still unavailable. It seems likely that Superman will be called in to assist Kara (Melissa Benoist) in dealing with Queen Rhea (Teri Hatcher) of Daxam, who, when we last saw her, killed her own husband and pledge vengeance on Supergirl and the Earth for stealing her son Mon-El (Chris Wood). Of course, there’s also Project CADMUS out there, who seem to be hellbent on getting all aliens off Earth by any means necessary, and there’s no bigger alien on Earth (figuratively anyway) than Superman. Perhaps Lilian Luthor (Brenda Strong) and Rhea will team-up over their mutual enmity of Supergirl…
Hoechlin got some strong praise when he first appeared in two episodes at the beginning of this season of Supergirl, and a lot of fans were hoping for a comeback. Presently, Supergirl is on hiatus but it will return with a brand new episode on April 24. The second season finale of Supergirl will air on May 22.
Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 pm on the CW.
