For a little over a year we’ve known that Syfy has had a pilot in development that would chronicle Superman’s origins. Not the rocketed-as-a-baby-to-Kansas-car-lifting-space-orphan one, everyone knows that one (hot tip for the next film reboot!) No, we are talking the wonder filled world of Krypton. A world that has only been glimpsed in all its lens flare filled Marlon Brando/Russell Crowe scenery chewing glory for live action fans. And other than the above logo and a few casting announcements, we haven’t seen much.
Well, now you can see more. Feast your eyes on the TV show’s first trailer!
Comicbook fans already know that the planet of Superman’s birth is an untapped resource of stories, and by the looks of the above minute and a half… Well it doesn’t look like they are going that direction. According to Syfy, Krypton “will follow Superman’s grandfather – whose House of El was ostracized and shamed – as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.”
Production wise it really looks like the show will carry on the look and feel scene currently in the DC Film Universe so there is speculation that it will tie into the Zack Synder film series. And, am I alone for getting sort of a Game Of Thrones sorta vibe off this? I mean, this is Syfy… it’s not like we’re going to see a lot of Daxamite wang or anything.
Krypton will be executive produced by David S. Goyer (I know…) with Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) will serve as executive producer/showrunner. Cameron Cuffe plays Seg-El, Kal-El’s grandfather and is described as athletic, quietly confident, and in his 20s. Georgina Campbell is Lyta Zod (who is forbidden relationship with Seg-El) while Ian McElhinney, Elliot Cowan, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis DayAaron Pierre round out the cast and the pilot is set to hit screens ‘later this summer.’
