While we have seen many cartoon iteration of the famed DC supergroup, The Teen Titans, we have yet to see a live action version of them. We’ve had the Cartoon Network’s kid-friendly version of the team, as well as countless direct to video movies released via On Demand and Blu-Ray. The Teen Titans have been going through development hell for quite some time. For the last four years, there have been numerous attempts to bring about a live-action version of them to television. We almost came close with a potential TNT series, but that fell through as well. However, good things come to those who wait.
Warner Bros Television and DC Entertainment announced today that we are finally going to get a live action Teen Titans television show, and it’s coming in 2018. Following the footsteps of CBS (with their CBS All Access), Warner Bros will be launching Warner Bros. Digital Networks Group, a new streaming service aimed for their properties, specifically their DC-based properties, and it will launch with a Teen Titans TV show. Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will serve as executive producers for the upcoming TV show.
As it’s just in the planning stages, we don’t yet have a cast, but rest assured, if it’s anything like any of the animated films, it will be pretty awesome. It’s also unknown if this will directly connect to Berlanti’s “Arrowverse,” but if so, it would be great to see some of the younger heroes like Kid Flash or even Speedy make a cameo (or even join the team). In addition to the Teen Titans TV show, Young Justice: Outsiders, the third season of the popular animated series will also be launching next year for the new digital service! So in addition to Teen Titans, we’ll also get a new season of the popular show.
