In 2012, the independent sci-fi/action/comedy Iron Sky introduced us to a simple idea: Nazis on the Moon. The story goes that in 1945, on the brink of losing World War II, some industrious Nazis got on a rocket, went to the Moon, and dug in to wait for the day they could return to the Earth and take over. If you saw Iron Sky, then you know that things didn’t go exactly as planned with the leaders of the Earth turning on each other after defeating the space Nazis, and now there’s a sequel that doesn’t just take us to outer space again, but to inner space…
In the new trailer for Iron Sky: The Coming Race, we get our first good look at the sequel, which, like the previous film, was budgeted independently thanks to crowdfunding efforts. The Coming Race takes place 20 years after the original and finds the survivors of the nuclear war taking shelter in the old Nazi moon base, but with dwindling supplies they’re forced to return to the Earth. Meanwhile, the not-so-vaguely Sarah Palin inspired President strikes a deal with Adolf Hitler and his pet Tyrannosaurus “Blondi”, who live in the Hollow Earth. Then things will get weird. Check out the new trailer for Iron Sky: The Coming Race below.
The film stars Julia Dietze, Udo Kier, and Stephanie Paul, who are all returning from the first film, and it will also feature Tom Green as the leader of a cult dedicated to the philosophy and memory of Steve Jobs. Director Timo Vuorensola also returns to explore the expanding world based on out-there Nazi conspiracy theories. Will the Hollow Earth and the Vril be as enriching an experience as moon bases and Nazi UFOs? We’ll see, lord knows fans have given Vuorensola more than twice the amount of money to prove it with The Coming Race then they did with the first Iron Sky.
Iron Sky: The Coming Race will premiere in Finland in February 2018.
