When Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. first premiered back in 2013, the show had to go through some growing pains. A rocky, uneven first season had to tread water while waiting for the big reveal connecting to the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier surrounding the infiltration of Hydra into S.H.I.E.L.D. and the dissolution of the organization. Since then, the show has been building its own world, sometimes connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sometimes doing its own thing. In addition to bringing the Inhumans into the MCU (probably ahead of Marvel Studios intended to), the show had an incredible fourth season, complete with multiple story arcs which included the Ghost Rider, Life Model Decoys (LMD), and now The Framework in the Agents of Hydra arc.
There had been some concerns that by changing the time slot to a later time, (10:00-11:00 EST instead of the previous 9:00-10:00 EST time), that the show might be heading towards cancellation as naturally, there would be fewer viewers at that time. Nevertheless, ratings remained strong. The show this season has been exceptionally well, so the possibility of avoiding cancellation was definitely a possibility. The producers filmed next week’s season finale as a season finale and not a series finale. ABC announced their renewals for next season and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has survived. Agent Coulson himself, Clark Gregg took to social media to express his excitement.
