We have less than three weeks before the release of Wonder Woman, the DC Extended Universe’s (DCEU) first female solo comic movie (and in fact, the first female-centric superhero movie in general). Even with Wonder Woman not out already, Warner Bros is already looking forward to their future films they have on the horizon. At least two of those will feature female heroines. As expected, we will be seeing a sequel to Wonder Woman. In addition, Joss Whedon will direct a Batgirl film.
While DCEU mastermind Geoff Johns hasn’t officially confirmed that these films are currently in development, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that these films are in the pipeline. During the red-carpet premiere of Wonder Woman, journalist Arthur Wong revealed on social media that he spoke with Zack and Deborah Snyder about the options of a Wonder Woman sequel. He was able to confirm that the Amazonian princess will be in her own solo sequel, but she’ll have to wait for another caped crusader.
“Zack Snyder said there will have WONDER WOMAN 2！Deborah Snyder said the next female super hero movie is Batgirl!”
So if Barbara Gordon is the next DCEU heroine to have her own film, will they introduce in a Justice League sequel (or other character’s film) the same way they introduced Diana Prince? With Ben Affleck already preparing for his solo Batman film by hitting the gym, it’s easily possible that she could possibly have a cameo in The Batman before starring in her own solo film. Joss Whedon is currently writing the script for the upcoming film, and as he is famous for writing strong females in his TV/films, Batgirl will most likely honor the character and bring something new to the DCEU.
