Big Trouble in Little China was never one of those blockbuster hits. In fact, when it debut, it was far from it. However, over the years it developed a cult following which has prompted things like board games, t-shirts, and numerous petitions for a sequel. While the later may be a little further from reach than expected that doesn’t mean fans can’t find the answer in other forms of media. From BOOM! Studios, you and other fans will be able to get their hands on a new comic book series which follows a much older Jack. Hell on Earth no longer is just a saying – it’s the real deal. It’s been some time, but Jack’s found himself all alone during these times. Until his radio finally picks up a signal. On the other end is a voice claiming they can fix things – fix it all.

Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack will be written by John Carpenter and Anthony Burch. As many of you may already know, Carpenter directed the original film as well as The Thing and Escape from New York (two other Kurt Russell films). Burch, on the other hand, is a name that may not be as familiar. However, his writing credits have grown from starring in his own web series to one of the most popular gaming franchises ever. Burch started out as a YouTube personality alongside his sister Ashley where they co-wrote and starred in a series of shorts called Hey Ash Whatcha Playin’. He would go on to write for Gearbox Software and works on games such as Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and Tales From Borderlands: A Telltale Games Series.

According to the official synopsis for Old Man Jack, the comic book will follow a 60-year old Jack Burton. The year is 2020, “and hell is literally on Earth. Ching Dai, sick of relying on screw-ups like Lo Pan to do his bidding, has broken the barriers between Earth and the infinite hells, and declared himself ruler of all… Jack Burton is alone in a tiny corner of Florida with only his broken radio to talk to, until one day it manages to pick up a message. Someone is out there in the hellscape, and they know a way to stop Ching Dai.”

BOOM! Studios has been producing quality comic books lately especially when it’s come to adapting movies and television shows to print. Some great examples include Mighty Moprhin’ Power Rangers, Steven Universe, and WWE. Not only is the writing and art work commendable, but they’ve taken a title like the Power Rangers and gone into a direction completely different from the original American series and made it work. They’ve expanded upon the world of Steven Universe. And, with the WWE, BOOM! has created a whole new world back stage and behind the cameras. One that many have playfully imagined and has been fully visualized by BOOM!. The company has also done incredible work with their independent titles like Grass Kings and Misfit City. With all of this in mind, fans of the film will definitely want to pick this up once it’s released.

Other credits for the comic include Jorge Corona (artist), Stephane Roux, Sam Bosma, Michael Adams with Marco D’Alfonso, Will Robson, and Paul Pope (who will all do different variant covers for the comic). The comic will be 32, full color pages and will have an MSRP of $3.99.

Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack will be available in local comic book shops in September.
