We’ve know for awhile that we’d (sorta) see return to the much loved Warner Bros. Animation Timmverse with the Batman & Harley Quinn movie and it is starting to look like the 90’s borne fan favourite and critical darling Dark Knight defining cartoon’s return might be more than just a one-off direct to home movie. ScreenRant has just reported that the cartoons spin-off comicbook is making a return too to in the form of a prequel that will help set up the new movie. Here’s are the official details:
It’s the team-up we’ve been dreaming of as the cute psychopath Harley Quinn joins the brooding Dark Knight for a brand-new Digital First comic series, HARLEY QUINN AND BATMAN. The series, from Batman writer Ty Templeton and artist Rick Burchett, is an exciting new five-chapter prequel adventure to the Batman And Harley Quinn animated film coming out this August from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
Harley Quinn is a legend in her own mind, so when she realizes the Joker thinks of her as a sidekick, she takes her revenge. Harley’s now faced with a hard decision to break out as her own super-villain, and she’s willing to go for it!
As Ty Templeton put it, “we’re putting the band back together” because he’ll be joined by Rick Burchett, his cohort and multiple Eisner Award-winning partner from the B:TAS spin-off comicbooks the Batman & Robin Adventures and Batman: The Gotham Adventures.
“Batman and Harley, Joker and Ivy, Nightwing and Catwoman. Is there a better cast of characters anywhere in fiction?” says Templeton. “I spent some of the best years of my career working with these icons and could not be happier to be returning to Gotham City and their adventures. And to top it off, I get to work with the incomparable Rick Burchett again! Pinch me, I’m dreaming.”
“I spent quite a few years working with these characters in this art style,” says Burchett. “It’s like visiting old friends. For me, though, the best part is having the opportunity to work with Ty Templeton again. It’s been way too long.”
The digital first comic will start on July 31st with a biweekly run for 5 chapters, and then after the animated movie see release on the 15th of August, the book will change pace to match the events of the film and THEN in October will change to a seven part sequel to the animated movie. This amazing run will then be collected into a trade that will be released next summer.

If you didn’t get that off-hand reference to Harley’s hyenas then maybe you are not as obsessive of a fan of the animated classic as some, and to be honest, I envy you.
