The last time there was news about the world of James Bond, it was a couple of weeks ago when it was revealed that the producers were exploring the idea of a cinematic universe. Interesting direction for a movie series named after *one guy*, but more importantly than that was the fact that it had been a while since we heard a status update for Bond 25, the next movie in the series starring the man with a license to kill. In fact, it’s been far from certain that the present 007, actor Daniel Craig, was even going to come back for another James Bond adventure.
Well, it seems that Craig is indeed going to come back for at least one more Bond, according to the U.K. paper, The Mirror. In the recent past – during the press junket for the last Bond movie Spectre actually – Craig said he would “rather slash [his] wrists” than do another Bond, but those comments were later walked back and chalked up to the fatigue that comes from an arduous Bond movie shooting schedule. Incidentally, Craig still has one film left on his original five movie contract for the Bond series, the Mirror added.
Along with the question of Craig’s return is the question of who might sit in the director’s chair. One of the names brandied about has been Christopher Nolan. Now Nolan’s name has come up, and it seems rather pro forma when it does because he’s a popular and successful British director, but since wrapping the Dark Knight trilogy in 2012, it’s been pretty clear that Nolan is moving on with his own ideas and his own movies. There’s no way he would actually consider making a Bond movie, right? Actually, according to the director himself, it might depend on the circumstances…
“A Bond movie, definitely. I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it,” Nolan said to Playboy in an interview. “Maybe one day that would work out. You’d have to be needed, if you know what I mean. It has to need reinvention; it has to need you. And they’re getting along very well.”
Additional reporting from the Mirror said that the producers are talking to Adele to pen and perform the theme song for Bond 25, which seems a bit like wishful thinking at the moment because from the public perspective there’s no title, no star, no director, and no release date, but they’re working on the theme song?!?! On the other hand, maybe they’re further along than we think. A likely release date for Bond 25 is next November, which means that production will have to begin later this year or early next to make that release. Time will tell, and we’ll keep you posted.
