It’s been a little over a year since the last time the silver screen was graced with the likes of Professor X, Jean Grey, and Cyclops, but we won’t have to wait (too) long for another foray into Fox‘s X-Men Universe because the next big picture: X-Men: New Mutants. The X-Men spinoff will introduce a number of new characters into the X-Universe, and although the plot has yet to be detailed. We know when it’s premiering, but until today, we didn’t have any idea when production would actually begin. According to a recent Tweet, the movie begins filming tomorrow!
Director Josh Boone shot out a post on Instagram a short while ago indicating that shooting is scheduled to begin tomorrow.
The gag gift features the cast of Growing Pains (Alan Thicke, Kirk Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio, and others) with a little tweak to Kirk Cameron’s sweater, which added the X-Logo. The slate pays homage to the original television show, but also to the film’s working title, which is, of course, Growing Pains.
X-Men: The New Mutants will be based on the original comic series by Bob McLeod and Chris Claremont. Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Blu Hunt, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, and Alice Braga have joined the cast and will be shooting most of the production in Boston.
The original comic book followed Charles Xavier who put together a new team of mutants after he believed the original team of X-Men had perished. The roster consisted of Woldsbane (Williams), Dani Monster, Sunspot (Zaga), Canonball (Heaton), and Karma, but would later include Magik, Cypher, Magma, and Warlock.
In addition to The New Mutants, which is scheduled to hit theaters on April 13th, 2018, two other X-titles will be showing in 2018: Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
