One thing that was noticeably missing from season two of Supergirl was her mentor at CatCo, Cat Grant. It’s mostly due to the reason that production was from CBS’ cozy Los Angeles location in season one, to the CW’s Vancouver production location, and actress Calista Flockhart either did not want to move, or didn’t want to have one hell of a commute to work, so her character Cat Grant was written to take a “leave of absence” from the show. She did return toward the end of the second season as the Daximite invasion was going on, and she also clearly knew Kara was Supergirl (why doesn’t everybody, it’s just glasses), so there’s a lot more for Cat Grant to do. So, would she be on the show for the third season?
Supergirl herself, Melissa Benoist confirmed that Cat Grant will return to the show for season three in a recurring role. “The way that Calista appears in the first episode is really clever,” she said.
Supergirl will also have a few new faces next season. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actor Adrian Pasdar will cross networks (and comic book party lines) and play real estate developer Morgan Edge, who will be a foil for Kara because he will not stop until he gets what he wants. Also joining the show will be Carl Lumbly, who will be playing J’onn J’onnz’s (David Harewood) father M’yrnn J’onzz, a Martian religious leader. Yael Grobglas (Jane the Virgin) will play Psi, a psychic villain, and lastly, Emma Tremblay (Elysium) will play a young kid who is fascinated with Supergirl and may end up needing her help as a result.
