After what can charitably be described as “a carreer lull” (and can uncharitably be described as “The Crappening”), M. Night Shyamalan is enjoying an impressive resurgence, with many seeing his recent work, particularly, this year’s Split, as a remarkable return to form. Fans are excited then that his next project, Glass, will combine the universes of two of his most beloved films: Unbreakable and Split. According to reports, the much-anticipated project could start shooting as early as next month.
On one hand, Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Elijah Price AKA Mr. Glass, the antagonist from 2000’s Unbreakable whose rare genetic condition makes his bones as brittle as dry spaghetti. Bruce Willis will return as Unbreakable’s almost invulnerable hero, David Dunn.
Joining them, Shyamalan has recently announced that Sarah Paulson, star of hit show American Horror Story will be co-starring in Glass.
From the world of Split, James McAvoy will be back on-screen as Kevin Wendell Crumb, AKA Patricia, Dennis, Hedwig, Barry, Jade, Orwell, Heinrich, Norma, and, of course, The Beast. Anya Taylor-Joy, who narrowly escaped from her last encounter with McAvoy’s multi-faceted character, will also make an appearance.
Glass is due to hit theatres on January 18, 2019, with Jackson revealing today that fliming is scheduled to begin next month on September 25th.
In 2000’s Unbreakable, Willis’ becomes a reluctant superhero who discovers that he has superhuman strength after surviving a fatal accident, while Jackson becomes his nemesis, fuelled by anger at his disability and jealousy of Willis’ unwanted gift. In Split, McAvoy plays a dangerous individual with multiple personalities, one of which is known as “The Beast”. In Glass, these two worlds will collide, and we can be fairly confident that some impressive sparks will fly when they do.
