Fans have been clamoring for a sequel to director Pete Travis‘ 2012 Dredd since the movie hit theater screens. When fans figured out that a film sequel was a long shot, they turned their attention to hopes for an HBO like television series, in fact it’s been something of an Internet sensation over the last couple of years. When the producers of the film started to talk seriously about a TV series of course fans only wanted one man under that iconic helmet, Karl Urban. Urban has talked at conventions about wanting to be involved in a sequel and now has finally confirmed that he is in talks with the new Judge Dredd : Mega City One TV series.
Here’s what Urban had to say about the project when asked recently at Star Trek Las Vegas:
I am in discussions with them about that. I told them that if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.
Well, that is good news as many fans were worried that Urban would be replaced with another actor, someone not as well-known and much cheaper than Urban would be. Considering Urban’s love of the character, he might be more willing to take less as an actor in the series to get producer or back-end payment from the series.
As the talks develop we’ll bring the news to you as we learn it. Gotta say though, the guys behind this should also talk with Sylvester Stallone about a cameo as an older judge in the series. Not Dredd of course, but perhaps someone who helped train him?
