Deadpool was a smashing success for Fox Studios when it was released back in February, 2016 and fans have been chomping at the bit for a follow-up. The first full trailer for the upcoming sequel dropped on February 7th, 2018 and since that time, there has been speculation and rumors spreading like wildfire across the Internet as to what can be expected from the second installment.
The first trailer, “Meet Cable” introduced Josh Brolin’s upcoming character in typical Deadpool style. After making his appearance with a green sleeve, Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool breaks the fourth wall and acts out the rest of the sequence with action figures. This culminates in what can only be described as the most epic tea-bagging in cinematic history. When the digital effects are finally added in, we got to see Cable in all his glory.
Following that preview, people began talking about what could be expected when the film is finally released. Rumors of massive reshoots due to poor audience reaction at test screenings have concerned viewers, but recent reporting seems to have squashed this. Those reshoots only took up six days of additional filming and no digital mustaches were removed at any point. Speaking on that very issue, director David Leitch had this to say:
“It was nothing that had gone wrong. I think it’s a common misconception too – that people think that reshoots are to fix things that people didn’t like. A lot of the time, reshoots are to add more of the things that people loved. [Filmmakers] watch their films again and are like “better fix that”. I don’t know how much I can say about that. Usually films hate it when you talk about their reshoots – solely because people think that it’s because the film was bad for the test audience – but it was all good.”
That’s a relief and now that the second trailer has finally dropped (Don’t worry, we’re getting to it), fans are about as excited as they can be for what looks like an amazing addition to the X-Universe of films. Without further ado, here is the trailer you clicked on this article to see:
Here’s what we expect from a Deadpool 2 trailer: Violence (CHECK), Jokes (CHECK), Fourth Wall Breaks (CHECK), Excessive Profanity (CHECK), Awesome Cameos (CHECK), A Desire To Invent A Time Machine And See The Movie Right NOW (CHECKITY CHECK CHECK!!!). In all seriousness, DP2 looks like it checks all the boxes we expect from the second entry in what looks like a fully-fledged franchise.
As referenced in the trailer, X-Force scheduled to begin filming looks like it will be the next big “X-Franchise” to land for the next “10-12 years”, which looks to be the case with Fox that very film this October.
Deadpool 2 will see the return of T.J. Miller as Weasel, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Morena Baccarin as Vanessa. New to the franchise are Josh Brolin as Cable, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Jack Kesy as Black Tom Cassidy, and Julian Dennison as the kid.
The official plot summary for Deadpool 2 gives away much of the plot:
After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
Deadpool 2 will hit theaters on May 18, 2018 in the United States. A sequel, Deadpool 3, is already in development.
