Director Shane Black, best known for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3, takes the lead on the fourth installment (If you don’t count the crossover films. But really, who does?) of Predator movies. The trailer gives us a glimpse at yet another new style of Predator, hinting that they may pose a new level of threat. Who on Earth could save us from these killing machines? A ragtag group of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher, of course!
The Predator’s official synopsis is one of the best ever.
“From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. The universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”
Every sci-fi/action movie needs a disgruntled science teacher for a protagonist
The trailer starts off with a young boy opening a box of what looks like Predator tech. (You really CAN order anything from Amazon!) After the boy triggers one of the devices while playing with the tech, an alien ship begins it’s approach to Earth.
We can only assume it’s the disgruntled science teacher that figures out that the Predators have been splicing their DNA. Combining themselves with creatures from other planets they visit. Thus making them smarter and more dangerous.
The film’s cast list sports some fan-favorite names. Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck), Oliva Munn (X-Men Apocalypse), Thomas Jane (Punisher), Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele), and Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones).
While the crossovers were a bit lackluster, the film’s predecessor, Predators, did well and seemed to be well received by long-time Predator fans. Slated for a September 14, 2018 release date, The Predator looks to be an action-packed end-of-summer movie.
