DC’s Captain Marvel, alter ego of teenager Billy Batson, is the star of the Shazam comics and one of the original BIG superheroes. With that in mind, it’s fair to say, the comic’s fans are eagerly awaiting any information they can get about the forthcoming movie – which will be another in DC’s expanded cinematic universe. So far, the studio and actors have been pretty tight-lipped about it, but thanks to Zachary Levi, fans now have their first official look at the costume he will don when he becomes Captain Marvel.
For those of you who don’t know, Billy Batson is a regular teenager who is granted the magical ability to become Captain Marvel by the wizard, Shazam. When Batson says the word ‘Shazam’, he is struck by a lightning bolt and granted Superman-level powers.
Tweeting from the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, Levi shared a picture of the costume as pictured in a promo image. Allaying fears the costume would be a spandex throwback to the 80s, the costume appears to have a texture similar to that worn by Superman in the most recent DC movies.
Texture aside though, based on this single striking image, the aesthetic is not at all similar to what we’ve seen in other DC movies of recent times. It’s a lot bolder and brighter – which can’t be a bad thing. With Deadpool cracking jokes at the ‘dark’ nature of DC movies in Deadpool 2, it’s probably about time DC grasped the ‘fun’ aspect of superhero movies.
Getting DCEU Superman vibes from Shazam's costume. Considering Billy admires Superman, I wouldn't think it would be too much of a stretch to think his costume was inspired by Superman's. #Shazam pic.twitter.com/Mx9nGCMRGy

With Captain Marvel chugging down on a soft drink, the bright colours of the crisp white cape and glowing lightning bolt certainly give off the vibe that Shazam will deliver on Director, David F Sandberg’s promise that his movie will convey the magic any kid who can literally transform into a superhero must feel.
Here’s hoping the movie delivers what its fans want to see.
