It was only days ago that Syfy’s The Expanse was unceremoniously read its last rites. The epic space saga, based on James S.A Corey’s compelling novels, was a firm favourite with many, which is why news of its demise seemed to come as a shock. Fortunately, those same fans now have reason to rejoice. It seems Amazon has already capitalised on the show’s cancellation to snatch it up and order a fourth season.
Fans of the show will know this, but The Expanse is Space Opera at its finest. Set 200 years in the future, it transports viewers to an outer space colonised by humanity and fraught with conflict. Amongst this, two strangers are caught in a web of intrigue and conspiracy. As with any epic saga, there’s layers of complexity that would take far too long to summarise here, but if you’re interested, it’s well worth checking out.
As mentioned before, many were disappointed when the show was cancelled. Even Chris McCumber, President of entertainment networks at NBCU Cable Entertainment said, “Everyone at Syfy is a massive fan of the series, and this was an incredibly difficult decision. We want to sincerely thank The Expanse’s amazing cast, crew and all the dedicated creatives who helped bring James S.A. Corey’s story to life. And to the series’ loyal fans, we thank you most of all.”
Even though the deal is yet to be finalised, there seems to be quite a buzz around Amazon’s potential revival of the acclaimed series. Having said that, it’s worth keeping in mind that Amazon is yet to comment on the potential deal.
We’re excited, but the deal’s not closed…we’re not quite through the woods yet! 🌟 Keep up the fight Expansers & watch this weeks episode LIVE with us on SyFy 🚀 we’ll be dancing in the streets right along with you as soon as we get anything official #TheExpanse #SaveTheExpanse https://t.co/cHNi3bTd8P

Since news of the show’s cancellation broke, its plight has been helped by the #savetheexpanse campaign aimed to generate publicity that would drive viewers to binge-watch the series and boost its ratings on streaming networks.
As James O’Neill has suggested on Twitter, fans of the show need to keep the campaign going until we have official confirmation season 4 is alive and kicking.
