The Venom movie might still be months away from its official release, but speculation regarding the film’s plot, characters and cameos has just ramped up a notch. For those of you not completely familiar with Venom, another big Marvel anti-hero likely to earn an R Rating, he started life as a Spider-Man villain, but has since gone on to become one of the publisher’s most well known vigilantes. (Possible spoiler down below.)
Woody Harrelson has long been rumoured to have secured the role of Venom and Spider-Man villain, Cletus Kasady aka Carnage. Harrelson’s latest comments have all but confirmed that rumour.
In an interview promoting Solo, Harrelson told Collider, “I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know?”
While it’s only a snippet of information, it fits firmly with speculation currently doing the rounds about Venom and any upcoming sequels.
It has been suggested that a Venom cameo for Harrelson would mean that audiences would briefly meet Kasady before an offshoot of the symbiote can bond with him and form Carnage – most likely during an end-credits scene.
If you’re familiar with Venom at all, you’ll know his origin story well enough to skip this next part. If you don’t, here’s a quick synopsis: after Spider-Man gets rid of his symbiote suit (the living black one), it seeks another host. When it discovers Eddie Brock, a journalist with a hatred for Spidey, it bonds with him, granting him Spider-Man’s own powers. Venom is one of Spider-Man’s arch-nemeses, but he’s also a violent anti-hero in his own right.
The Venom movie will focus on a solo Venom story that supposedly takes its cues from the works of John Carpenter and David Cronenberg.

It is worth noting though, Tom Holland is rumoured to appear as Peter Parker in the upcoming movie. Whether or not that has implications for the larger MCU is impossible to know at this point.
