Warner Brothers is celebrating the start of production on Wonder Woman 1984 by debuting two first look photos from the highly anticipated superhero sequel.
Patti Jenkins got the ball rolling with a tweet of an image that confirms Chris Pine is returning as Steve Trevor. Then Gal Gadot tweeted an image of herself in front of a bank of TVs with 80s images.
In addition to Gadot and Pine, the sequel’s cast includes Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig in the role of the super-villain The Cheetah.
Chris Pine is back and looks confused at this surroundings.
The image tweeted by Patti Jenkins shows Pine’s Steve Trevor in a mall in the 1980s and was captioned, “Welcome to Wonder Woman 1984, Steve Trevor #WW84” This contradicts all the rumors that his appearances would be via flashback.
The Lynda Carter led Wonder Woman TV show (1974-76) starred Lyle Waggoner as Steve Trevor in the World War II setting and his son when the show moved to the 1970s after the first season.
It is highly possible that this is a similar situation but nothing has been confirmed at this point.
A second image was tweeted by Gal Gadot.
Two images on those screens are vary familiar. On Gal’s left is J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman) from Dallas. And directly to her right is an image from National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983) with Christie Brinkley in her red convertible when she is flirting with Chevy Chase on the highway. The other images looks to be a mix of commercial images from that era.
Filming is taking place in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Virginia, and in the UK, Spain, and the Canary Islands.
Pedro Pascal previously played Ed Indelicato in the pilot of the failed 2011 Wonder Woman pilot that had Adrianne Palicki in the role of Wonder Woman/Diana. His role has not been revealed yet.
The film opens November 1, 2019.
