On May 10th, viewers got their first taste of the Shane Black directed, The Predator in a teaser trailer.  It gave a brief glimpse of the “Super Predator” and the cast in action.

Now 20th Century FOX has released a new poster and a full trailer for the film that offers a better idea of the story and how things will go down.

The synopsis for the film gives a few details of what audiences can expect this fall,

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. The universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

And now here is the new trailer in all its glory….

The first Predator film released in 1987 was a gritty, horror film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger who confronted a Predator in the jungles of Central America.  That film was the second highest earning film of 1987 (behind only Beverly Hills Cop II).  It went on to gross over $98 million worldwide.

After the success of the first film a sequel starring Danny Glover was released three years later.  It earned slightly more than half of what the first film made.

That film was followed by 2010s Predators and two films that pitted the Predators against the Giger inspired Aliens (Alien vs Predator in 2004 and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem in 2007).

Those films were disappointing both to fans and the studio.

Shane Black hopes that this film will right the ship and bring the franchise back to prominence.

Black told /film during a set visit that:

“We just tried to take the existing mythology and take it a step further. Ask some questions about why? Why Predators do what they do? What would be the next step for them? How do we up the stakes so that there’s not just a single Predator hunting a group of soldiers? Who are the soldiers? How are they different? What’s the heroic quotient and how do you make it not just guys with tough talk and big arms?”

Along with the trailer release the official twitter account of the film also revealed the first poster.

Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey and Yvonne Strahovski star in the new film which is slated to open on September 14th.
