Get Ready For Djimon Hounsou Overload

Djimon Hounsou is no stranger to the nerdy genres. He’s acted and voiced in TV, cartoons, and movies. Titles like The Wild Thornberrys, voiced Black Panther in the 2010 Marvel Knights mini-series, Drago in How To Train Your Dragon 2, playing Papa Midnite in the Constantine movie, starred in Seventh Son, The Legend of Tarzan, and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. He played Korath in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie that had everyone tilting their head and asking “Who?” for weeks after the first trailer dropped. But what’s next on his plate? Three incredible roles in three big movies.

Korath the Pursuer in Captain Marvel

Because Captain Marvel is set in the 90s, Hounsou can reprise his role as Korath even though Drax killed him in the first Guardians movie. We don’t have much information on Captain Marvel yet, save that it will involve the Skrulls and is set to expand on Marvel’s cosmic universe. GotG saw Korath as little more than a hired gun, but Captain Marvel could give us a bit more to the character, taking place before Thanos began looking for the infinity stones quite so openly.

The Wizard in SHAZAM!

The Wizard’s name is Shazam, the word Billy Batson says to transform is “Shazam!”, and we now call DC’s Captain Marvel ‘Shazam‘ instead of Captain Marvel. Confused yet? DC lost the rights to advertise their Captain Marvel as ‘Captain Marvel’, so they’ve rebranded him as Shazam. Which is really what a lot of lay-folk called him anyway. Hounsou is set to play the Wizard Shazam and give little Billy Batson the ability to turn into Zachary Levi.

The Fisherman King in Aquaman

When Atlantis fell, it’s people split into factions. Some evolved, some devolved. The Fisherman King rules over a realm that evolved, consisting of poets, philosophers, artists and cerebral sorts. The Fisherman King is swept up in Orm/Ocean Master’s plot to go to war with the surface world. Hounsou plays the pivotal role in WB’s Aquaman.

All three roles require lots of time in make-up with prosthetics and CGI mapping. They all also come out within 5 months of each other. Hounsou is set to do publicity tours for all 3 movies, the poor guy won’t get a rest until they’re all out. Here’s to hoping he takes a nice long and well earned, vacation.

Aquaman releases December 21, 2018, Captain Marvel releases March 8, 2019, Shazam! releases April 5, 2019.
