This past Labor Day Weekend, PAX West was in full force, sharing demos for new games to dazzle video game fans from around the country. With over 100 games on display, its a pixelated wonderland. Yet amidst all the fantastic games with so much work put into them, there were a few that curated the most buzz.

Here are 12 highlight games from PAX West.

Devil May Cry 5

10 years after its last devilish release, Capcom is finally continuing its hit demon slashing series in Devil May Cry 5. The new game is led by its Devil May Cry 4 protagonist, Nero. In the last game, he was a young teen with a demon arm. Several years later, he seems to have lost the arm but is still a fierce, formidable demon hunter. Fans could try the game out at PAX West, and it only increased the excitement for the long-awaited continuation of the series. Devil May Cry 5 will come out March 8th, 2019.

Boyfriend Dungeon

One of the hottest games at PAX West this year was the indie kickstarter able to make the coldest person blush: Boyfriend Dungeon. Boyfriend Dungeon mixes the action of games like Enter the Gungeon with the romantic antics of games like Dream Daddy. All of the weapons have unique, diverse personalities that send any dungeon-crawler into a twitter. Gamers already seemed enamored with all the swords and daggers, so we’ll see how they feel about the rapiers.

Soul Calibur 6

Bandai Namco released their latest entry into the Soul Calibur series and, at PAX West, amatuer players got to battle it out in a tournament. While the game has many classic characters like Maxi, Yoshimitsu, and Sophitia, they’ve also added gamer favorites like Geralt of Riveria. The gameplay has evolved, the combos have become more interesting, and it still remains a solid fighting game for newbies and veterans to fall in love with.

Marvel’s Spiderman

This is hardly the first time someone’s attempted a Spiderman video game, but this is the first time people have had such excitement for one. The game has the key, exciting aspects of a Spiderman adventure: web-slinging, action, and saving the day. However, the game takes a note from the Arkham Asylum series by having the game be centered around an original story. This edge, along with some well-balanced gameplay and smooth slinging, has made this one of the most anticipated games of the year.

From the creators of Skullgirls come a new, narrative game about Ajna, a headstrong hero with more to her than meets the eye. Using their expert and creative knowledge in fighting games, the developers have used their Skullgirls success to make a more complex, richer experience. Ajna travels with several distinct, lovable characters in this platforming/turn based battle mash-up adventure. And the beautiful art only makes the journey all the more worthwhile.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Devil May Cry 5 isn’t the only long-awaited sequel on this list. 13 years after Kingdom Hearts 2, its sequel is finally being released January 2019. The game will, like all Kingdom Hearts, feature characters from Disney, Pixar, and Final Fantasy titles. Fans have anxiously awaited the game and already are ready to buy the game in droves. Characters from Tangled, Frozen, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc. have been confirmed to make appearances.

Do you like Minecraft? Do you like space? Well, congrats, welcome to Astroneer. Astroneer is a explorative, building sandbox game where players adventure the galaxy. They are Astroneers, explorers and creators of new worlds. Beautiful and more complex than you’d expect, the game was a huge hit and always harbored a large crowd.

Rapture Rejects

Against all odds, Cyanide and Happiness and TinyBuild have come together to create a new Battle Royale game that is unique enough to hold its own. Unlike the others in its genre, Rapture Rejects is a 2D, top-down competition where being snuck up on is a lot harder. Players can see all enemies within their radius and it’s more about dodging, aim, and overall cleverness. With apocalyptic weapons made from CDs and garbage, and its differing gameplay, the game has a perfectly unique flair that sets it apart from all other boring snores in the genre.

Resident Evil 2

With the recent bountiful success of Resident Evil 7, Capcom is re-releasing the zombie classic: Resident Evil 2. However, this re-release does have a special feature. The game has been updated with new, 2018 level graphics. The game, instead of its old look, now will look closer to a CGI movie. Who doesn’t want to see Leon and Ada Wong in sharp, beautiful focus? Return to Racoon City January 25th, 2019.

Untitled Goose Game

PAX West was a champion of odd games, and one of its strongest champions of this was Untitled Goose Game. Starting from its name, the entire game is a comedic, trolling extravaganza. You play as a goose ruining the daily lives of the townspeople. For example, you can steal all of a man’s laundry, throw it in his swimming pool, and then throw in some soap. Laundry done perfectly, right? It’s goofy, it’s a mess, and it’s loads of fun. Untitled Goose Game will come out early 2019.

My Friend Pedro

Devolver has several new games wowing fans this year, but none are quite as breathtakingly awesome and killer as My Friend Pedro. On the surface, the game is a typical shoot-em-up with style. However, the game also is a gymnastic murder-spree dictated by a living banana. The main player dances and flips majestically to kill his targets in the most fabulous ways. The better you get at the game, the more impressive and fantastical it is. A beautiful, bloody ballet, My Friend Pedro comes out March 2019.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Since the Nintendo Switch premiered, fans have been waiting for its version of Super Smash Bros. As one of the most beloved Nintendo series, it was great news when Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was announced. Even better, nearly all characters that have ever been in a Super Smash game, including some new ones, will partake in the largest Super Smash to ever exist. The game releases December 2018, but during PAX West the lines to enjoy the game were already endless. Nintendo might just have their biggest Switch hit yet.
