Afropunk refers to the participation of African Americans and other black people in punk and alternative subcultures like Cyberpunk and alternative history fiction similar to Steampunk. And few comics have embodied that like Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer. David Crownson and crew have found success with their comic featuring not only a woman but of a woman of color, with a mostly person of color cast. Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer comes off as a breath of fresh air with a unique perspective and vivid storytelling.
Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer is a graphic novel based on the true life of the freedom fighter with genre liberties that mirror Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Log Line: When slave owners can’t stop the formidable ninja warrior Harriet Tubman, they call on the help of Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, & Demons to stop her. Harriet Tubman must lead a family of slaves to freedom while battling an army of darkness.
Think: Django Unchained + Buffy The Vampire Slayer + Mad Max: Fury Road
