Luke Gallagher

  • Profile: Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Nerd Bastards.com, Luke Gallagher - the love child of Michael Chikilis and Mr. Clean - can be found in Boston, Massachusetts, where he hopes to find continued inspiration and resonance in life through diversified, ambiguous, ambitions. He also wishes to have intimate relations with Christina Hendricks (a man can dream). He has been a professional wrestler, student of Jiu Jitsu, attempted body builder, aspiring actor and hot wings competitor. While genetically programmed to live life as a jock, he couldn't (mentally) be more opposite. It’s been months since there’s been any substantial news regarding Captain Marvel, the first female solo film outta Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. But today, as one might have assumed they would, Marvel gave a little something something during their panel at San Diego Comic Con. And by a little something, we’re talking an unexpected (and legally confounding) alien race, as well an interesting timeline in the MCU.  (more…)

Life is like a hurricane in Duckberg, and nobody knows it better than Scrooge McDuck; the millionaire codger was a  character children fell in love with while watching Disney’s Saturday morning classic, DuckTales. The show premiered in 1987, and was so successful that it led to a feature film, DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, and two highly successful video games (one of which was remastered not too long ago). DuckTales (and spin-offs DarkWing Duck and Quack Pack) has since remained a nerdy fan favorite (even resulting in some disturbing deconstructions). Last year, Disney realized how sorely the franchise was missed, and moved ahead to revive the show with a reboot on Disney XD. Now the time for nostalgia is nearly at hand. Disney has released the shows updated theme song, new images, and a premier date!  (more…)

Hey, do you remember Pinball – those coffin-shaped boxes where you hit a silver ball around a chaotic playfield? If you thought this game of skill died out in the 90’s, you’d be wrong. Sure, Pinball machines are no longer as prevalent in arcades, bowling alleys, or bars as they once were; but the culture of Pinball is alive and well. Despite the staggering decline in pinball gaming, new machines are being made all the time. Particularly to promote pop movie and television licenses; with such titles as: The Walking Dead, Star Trek, The Avengers, Game of Thrones, Ghostbusters and more.

If the Force isn’t strong in pinball, how about this… Stern Pinball has announced that it is making a special 40th anniversary Star Wars pinball machine!  (more…)

By the time Avatar 2 comes out (2020) it will have been 11 years since the release of the first film from 2009.  Will such a big gap between the movies effect the franchise future success? If you ask director Jame Cameron, not at all.

Cameron recently spoke with CNN in honor of Disney World’s Pandora: The World of Avatar expansion. He was asked about what is taking so long with the Avatar sequels, of which there are four, and if he is at all worried about time working against him. As confident as anyone wielding a multi-billion dollar franchise can be, he’s isn’t showing much concern at all. Here’s what he had to say about it: (more…)

Is Luke Skywalker the best Jedi that ever lived? That’s a question that inspires endless debates and one that will not be answered here. But just for the record, he did go from orphan farmer boy to galaxy-saving Jedi in just three movies. Took down the Death Star with his eyes closed. Turned his evil dad good again. Oh, and he gives awesome piggy back rides. We’re here today to not talk about Luke the Jedi, but Luke the pilot. Now, we wouldn’t be so bold to say one is cooler/better than the other but in terms of what his actions as a pilot meant for the Rebels and, well, the galaxy pilot Luke is pretty dope.

While it’s a far cry from sniping Womp rats in a T-16 you can now have Luke decked out in full pilot gear in your home. Technically, there have been lots of Rebel Pilot Luke toys made over the years (lots!), but none quite like this 1/6th figure from Sideshow Collectibles.   (more…)

Most out there have witnessed the critical tirade that is Honest Trailers. Brought to the world byScreen Junkies, this amusing series of YouTube videos takes the movies that we all know and love (and sometimes hate with a passion) and tear them into little pieces for all the stupid crap that the writers, producers and directors decided would make good cinema. And it appears as if the Screen Junkies crew has now achieved a milestone, what with this, their 200th episode. The parody series takes an honest look back at Hugh Jackman in FOX’s 2017 third and final solo Wolverine film, Logan. Oh, and they seek the help of Ryan Reynolds Deadpool to do it.   (more…)

It’s always fun when figures of pop culture run along side Scooby-Doo and Co. The Mystery Machine gang have run into the likes of: KISS, The Harlem Globetrotters, John Cena, The Superfriends and many others (see complete list HERE).  In a long line of cameo/crossovers, comes an announcement of a NEW team-up, and one that hasn’t left fans this excited since sending Scrappy Doo behind bars (gawd, what an annoying character!). It was revealed that Scooby and the gang will crossover with another team of supernatural hunters next season (Yes, that pun was intended!). The Brothers Winchester, Sam and Dean, from CW’s Supernatural will be teaming-up Freddy, Velma, Shaggy, Daphne and Scooby-Doo for an adventure like no other.  (more…)

Hellboy. Hellboy. Hellboy. Saying it 3 times won’t get director Guillermo Del Toro back in the directing chair for the a long awaited and fan demanded Hellboy 3. Not happening. Not ever. Why, why crush such dreams? Well besides Del Toro dashing such hopes himself, there comes a word. A word that is typically so rotten that those who hear it screech and cry in terror. That word is… REBOOT *Cue the ominous  Dun-Dun-Duuuun!!!

Yes, Hellboy is getting rebooted. But in this case, this one in a handful of cases, a reboot might not be such a bad thing.

The wait is over. Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 has been released to theaters everywhere. Joyous is the sound of fans and general audiences, singing the praise of another smash hit from director James Gunn and co. It’s true. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 – albeit not as fresh and new as the first one and perhaps a little too big a spectacle for its own good – is way fun, warm (a lot of feels in this movie), and is everything going to the movies should be – a good time. While numbers are still rolling in, it saw $56 million at the box office on opening day, and is targeting a big $140 million weekend. Suffice to say, it delivered and is performing as well as everyone hoped it would. And no one is as thankful and as happy as the films director James Gunn.

Taking to Facebook earlier today, Gunn put out one of the sincerest and earnest thank you to fans, opening up about his time spent making the series, what influences both shaped and saved his life, and what box office success really means to him. (more…)
