Watch it Before It’s Gone: ‘Agents of SHIELD’ Viral Teaser Featuring The Hulk http://nerdbastards.com/2013/05/09/watch-it-before-its-gone-agents-of-shield-viral-teaser-featuring-the-hulk/ http://nerdbastards.com/2013/05/09/watch-it-before-its-gone-agents-of-shield-viral-teaser-featuring-the-hulk/#comments Fri, 10 May 2013 00:57:42 +0000 Luke Gallagher http://nerdbastards.com/?p=120980 SHIELDVIRAL

This is not, I repeat NOT, a viral video from ABC/Marvels highly anticipated Agents of SHIELD. No, that is not The Incredible Hulk causing destruction, captured from a distance. What you see here, is video Mrs Nerd Bastards took of me after gorging myself with Taco Bell (did you know they finally have cool ranch Dorito tacos?). Clearly, you wouldn’t like stomach when it’s angry.

Bathroom humor aside, this is indeed a viral teaser for the upcoming show. While ABC has not made an official announcement, they briefly (likely accidentally) published the  video on their youtube page.  It’s being take down left and right. Much like Hydra, however, cut off one head, and two more will grow in it’s place. Still, watch it before it’s gone.

here’s a second copy, just in case the first get’s pulled

What the hell is The Hulk doing in Agents of SHIELD? That’s a surprise, isn’t it? Does this mean A-List characters like The Hulk will be featured regularly? Or, is this just security footage; something you’d see on a monitor on the Hellicarrier bridge?

I’m sure this viral footage is just a small piece of what’s to come. If the marketing for Iron Man 3 is any indication, you can bet Marvel/ABC are gonna promote the hell out of this show. Cool viral shit like this pleas to my nerdy sensibilities, so I say “bring it!”.

The pilot was directed by Joss Whedon, co-written by Joss, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Clark Gregg reprises his role from the Marvel films as Phil Coulson, appearing alongside Ming-Na Wen, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet and J. August Richards

Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Casts Enzo Cilenti – Who? http://nerdbastards.com/2013/05/09/marvels-guardians-of-the-galaxy-casts-enzo-cilenti-who/ http://nerdbastards.com/2013/05/09/marvels-guardians-of-the-galaxy-casts-enzo-cilenti-who/#comments Thu, 09 May 2013 16:22:16 +0000 Luke Gallagher http://nerdbastards.com/?p=120877 images

Marvel can cast whoever they think is right for their super hero flicks. A) They’re Marvel, they can do whatever they want, and B) they’ve proved their decisions time and time again. They often make surprising choices (like RDJ as Iron Man, and Chris Evans as Captain America), but they’ve always been the right picks. Once you see their actors breath life into a character, you couldn’t possibly picture anyone else in the role. So, yeah, Marvel has done a great job so far.

So, this brings me to Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy; a comic space adventure featuring out of this world characters. The film has already secured the bulk of its main cast, with a few peculiar picks; including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana , Micheal Rooker and Dave Bautista. Pratt and Bautista getting the most head-turns.  However, now Enzo Cilenti has announced on Twitter that he too has joined the film. The tweet was later deleted, but here’s what it said.

I may or may not be in #Guardiansofthegalaxy. I am sworn to secrecy so can’t say. In entirely unrelated news, “I am”.

— Enzo Cilenti (@EnzoCilenti) May 8, 2013

Who the hell is this guy? Yeah, I’ve never heard of him either. Apparently, he’s been in quite a few things, including a mystery role in Kick-Ass 2 but I don’t recognize him.

Most of the lead characters have been cast, but rumor has it the English Cilenti could be playing one of the two remaining members of the Guardians. Rocket Raccoon has been said to be the “heart” of the film and is typically portrayed with a British accent, after all. Now, Doctor Who’s David Tennant was also rumored for this as well, so who knows?

What do you guys think of the casting for Guardians so far? Hit, or miss?

Guardians of the Galaxy will launch into theaters  August 1, 2014

Goddammit DC, Why’d You Have to Go and Ruin He-Man With Such a Ridiculous New Design?! http://nerdbastards.com/2013/05/06/goddammit-dc-whyd-you-have-to-go-and-ruin-he-man-with-such-a-ridiculous-new-design/ http://nerdbastards.com/2013/05/06/goddammit-dc-whyd-you-have-to-go-and-ruin-he-man-with-such-a-ridiculous-new-design/#comments Mon, 06 May 2013 18:22:37 +0000 Luke Gallagher http://nerdbastards.com/?p=120518 gay-heman

I’ve always had a great affinity for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Now, I dunno what liking a musclebound strong-man in a loincloth says about me (I don’t really care), but I’m a He-raver through and through.  I’ve enjoyed watching that pink-shirt-wearing-prince, with that fabulous secret, transform into “the most powerful man in the universe” since I was a kid.

Homoerotic undertones be damned, He-Man was a great sword and sandals type fantasy! What kid doesn’t fantasy about being hit with some puberty lighting and morph into one bad-ass barbarian dude?  I loved the shit out of the original 80′s cartoon, and the revived, but failed relaunch in 2002. I even have all the toys from the original line including the new collector series offered by Mattel’s subscription service. I’ll tell you this, to establish and qualify myself as a He-Man aficionado. I’m someone that can confidently and competently discuss the new comic series offered by DC, and the ridiculous new re-design.

Admittedly, the classic look of He-Man made him look like a gay-bondage wet-dream. At-least, that’s what I assume the male BDSM community fantasies about; I’m not speaking from experience, clearly. Still, the loin cloth, fur boots, cross armor and bulging muscles did play to the idealistic view of ones self. Again, who doesn’t dream of looking like bad-ass barbarian? Anyway, this look has stayed with He-Man since his inception. A few tweaks here and there through out each iteration (minus the “New Adventure” series, which we won’t talk about), but he has remained identifiable the same.  Unfortunately, DC Comics has redesigned the character…drastically.

DC Comics has released the cover for issue #4 of Keith Giffen and Pop Mhan’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and it features a very different looking He-Man. See below:

photo_0

It looks like it combines the styles of almost all that came before it, with the “H” on his chest being reminiscent of battle armor from the toy line. I contest that He-Man does not need armor. He’s just as powerful and invulnerable as Superman. Dude could fight naked and not have a thing to worry about. Speaking of which, I’m sure Skeletor would attack Greyskull far less, if He-Man came towards him floppin’ his second mightiest sword.

Obviously He-Man wasn’t going to be able to hang on to his Homo-erotic look for much longer. I get that, but man, I do not care for this Thor-esque design. Makes him look less of a big, strong tough guy.

Well, that’s my opinion anyway. I’m curious on what y’all think. Share your thoughts in the comment below.

Oh, and if you’re interested in the new comic, here’s what it’s all about:

By the Power of Grayskull, He-Man is back. Earlier this month, fans were excited about the launch of HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, a new ongoing monthly series by writer Keith Giffen and artist Pop Mhan. This is just the newest piece of good news for the Masters of the Universe; in 2012 MOTU had a #1 iPad action game and the Facebook page is up 25% in six months from word-of-mouth!

Hitting stores in July, HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE #4 will find He-Man captured by Despara, who is ordered to bring him before Hordak. But that’s not the only reason to be excited about issue #4. The issue’s cover by Ed Benes will also introduce He-Man’s new look for DC Comics!

In the epic war against the forces of Hordak ripping through the pages of the current series, He-Man must don the sacred armor of his ancestors. While fans may be surprised by this turn of events, this dynamic direction for one of the world’s best-known heroes is firmly rooted in the classic legacy of MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. After all, so long as you stay true to the core concepts, it’s always exciting to explore new possibilities, right?

Check out the image below to get your first glance at He-Man’s new look, and don’t forget to pick up this exciting new series, in stores now!

Good or Bad News: The Crow Remake Has Found It’s Star http://nerdbastards.com/2013/05/05/good-or-bad-news-the-crow-remake-has-found-its-star/ http://nerdbastards.com/2013/05/05/good-or-bad-news-the-crow-remake-has-found-its-star/#comments Sun, 05 May 2013 21:18:11 +0000 Luke Gallagher http://nerdbastards.com/?p=120459 evans-crow

Nobody, I repeat nobody, wants a remake of The Crow. The original 1994 movie starring the late Brandon Lee is a timeless cult classic. It’s a shame that Relativity Media is hell bent on tarnishing Lee’s legacy (he left this world while making it) with this unnecessary rehash. With that said, the recent casting rumors on who might play the lead has turned a few heads.

There was a time when Mark Walhberg and Bradley Cooper were rumored to play murdered musician Eric Draven. Fans, of course, balked at such silly notions. Things then got interesting when James McAvoy was linked to the project. A moment of pause, really. McAvoy was just a whisper in the shadows. Most recently,  some real eye-widening names got dropped. Thor‘s Tom Hiddleston and True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard were said to be finalists.

To be honest with you, as much as I loath the idea of a Crow remake, I’d be slightly intrigued to see Hiddleston in Crow make-up, acting all crazy and shit. That would be something! Alas, he and Skarsgard were just “in-talks”, with no real amount of negotiations involved. Apparently, all the actors (and bucket full of potential directors) the studio have cycled through, were all meant to keep-up appearances. The real choice for Regency was Luke Evans…. who, according to Deadline, just got the part.

Luke Evans (The Hobbit, Fast and the Furious 6, the upcoming Dracula) has been chosen to play the lead. Reportedly, director F. Javier Gutiérrez wanted Evans from the start, but his schedule was packed. Relativity wants to make the film badly enough that it has pushed back the start to shooting until early 2014 to lock Evans into the gig.

So, yeah, Evans is THE guy. What do you all think about this? I, for one, am not too invested in the remake. Hell, I consider this movie being made an act of treason. Anyway, some would say, Evans is the poor mans Orlando Bloom. Is he right for this role? Can you picture it? I dunno, maybe, however unlikely, the remake could be good. Evans seems a capable actor, and maybe, just maybe, Relativity Media could give us a faithful adaption to the comic book?

What say you fans? Sound off in the comment section below.

Celebrate May The 4th With Some of Nerd Bastards Favorite Star Wars Inspired Videos http://nerdbastards.com/2013/05/04/celebrate-may-the-4th-with-some-of-nerd-bastards-favorite-star-wars-inspired-videos/ http://nerdbastards.com/2013/05/04/celebrate-may-the-4th-with-some-of-nerd-bastards-favorite-star-wars-inspired-videos/#comments Sat, 04 May 2013 14:38:21 +0000 Luke Gallagher http://nerdbastards.com/?p=120434 Screen shot 2013-05-04 at 10.08.09 AM

As any nerd will automatically tell you, today is May the 4th, Star Wars day. Get it? May the fourth? Leave it to nerds to hijack a random day on the calendar and turn it into their own holiday based on a play on words (oh by the way, it’s also Free Comic Book Day, so a double pox on normies).

Celebrating the venerated day, fans will often dress up as their favorite characters, make intergalactic themed foods (Blue Milk, coconut covered chocolate Wookie balls…etc), get that rebel alliance tattoo they’ve been thinking about getting, write some unfortunate fan-fiction, and have a Star Wars movie marathon with friends and family and not the prequels. We at Nerd Bastards, however, wanna do something a little different….

Over the years, we’ve come across a number of videos inspired by the Star Wars. Some are good, some are bad, and some are extremely well done. There’s only a few, however, that stand out (in our eyes) as the best and funniest, and it is those that we present to you here, cue the scrolling text!

[Editor's note: Our scrolling text guy missed his deadline... sorry]

Our friends from OneMinuteGalactica have gone and farted up Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. A fart video with farting. I am not proud of myself for liking this video, but honestly it is perhaps the best fart vid I’ve ever seen. Period. Call me immature, but hearing Yoda rip a few (about a 1:30 in) followed by a “hehe! mmm powerful” had me ROFLMFAO. Only question now is…Will there be a “Return of the Fart?” God, I hope so. Oh, what about the prequels? Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Fart, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Farts and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Fart? Disney, there’s a DVD/bluRay re-release you can take to the bank!

What if Arnold Schwarzenegger had voiced Darth Vader instead of James Earl Jones? WTF? What a genius thought, right? Stop being a pussy, NOW! And, watch the video.

I need to only hear a bar or two of that infernal Gotye song to feel blood slowly trickling out of my ears (Other songs exist! Play them!), but the people over at TeddieFilms have made everything alright by parodying the video from “Somebody That I Used to Know” and the pain that exists in we original trilogy Star Wars fans who have ire — real, organic ire — for George Walton Lucas.

Bad news for all those fans out there who think George Lucas is a complex genius. Turns out the whole plot of the original Star Wars film can be summed up neatly and accurately in 90 seconds — by a toddler. This one drinks juice and peruses a calendar while sharing her surprisingly deep insights on the various characters, like C3PO (“the shiny guy always worries”) and Darth Vader (“he’ll getcha!”). I wish we all could remember it like that.

Star Wars: A Light in the Darkness. Unlike other SW fan films, which are primarily just another excuse to see another lightsaber fight, SW:ALITD is actually a unique and compelling story that fits into the cannon of the Star Wars saga. An awesome story is just the beginning. What really sells this film, and puts it far above other fan films is it’s top capita costumes, computer generated special effects, action-stunt work and compositing. If anything, it looks like Star Wars and Firefly made sweet, sweet love and A light in the Darkness was their love child.

Star Wars given the paper treatment! Watch the Original Trilogy retold via paper animation set to the lovely song ‘Tatooine’ by Jeremy Messersmith. A sweet little tune that sums up what how I feel about Star Wars.

A Star Wars themed, four-part a cappella musical tribute set to cinematic themes from composer John Williams.

What would happen if the starship Enterprise encountered the Death Star?

One, the most feared tyrant in the galaxy with a severe breathing problem, the other, some fool who thought it’d be a good plan to invade Russia in the winter. Hitler vs Darth Vader, the ultimate rap battle.

Star Wars Uncut, the ultimate fan vid. Hundreds took 15 second clips from the original and remade them with animation, acting, claymation, etc. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s like a Star Wars dream/nightmare.

Alright, so these were some of our favorite Star Wars videos. If you have a better selection, rifle off your favorites in the comment section below.

May the 4th be with you! But be careful and don’t have too much fun. Tomorrow is after all, Revenge of the 5th.
