One thing Nerds love is an independent project. Watching creators build their worlds up from the ground with barely more than their own moxie. It warms the cockles of nerd hearts across the world and can often lead to some of the best work a creator puts out. And today we turn to creator Brian Rosenthal. Notably from his Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness film from 2013, Rosenthal comes at us with his latest pitch for a new movie – The Last Blockbuster.

DC Universe is knocking it out of the park again and again. Titans, Doom Patrol, and now Swamp Thing. DC Universe is stepping things up in quality, not afraid to take chances on comic-accurate costumes and lesser-known characters. Pushing things to a more adult-like direction, darker without taking itself too seriously or losing the “fun” that fans feel is synonymous with comic book characters. Now with Swamp Thing, they delve into the horror genre. NerdBastards had the privilege, nay, the pleasure, of getting to toss some questions at Daniel Brodie, creator and writer of Morgan’s Organs. Brodie’s comic book, now in it’s third issue being funded through Kickstarter, is the unique perspective of the organs living in a college student, Morgan. Think Pixar’s Inside Out for grown-ups. Low brow humor of the highest quality, Morgan’s Organs gives voice to larger than life characters that many young men will identify with. Morgan’s brain, Bran, and his penis, Pepe, vie for control of Morgan’s love life while his other organs feel the fallout of their choices. Morgan and his organs sometimes seem at odds with each other, having differing goals and opinions. But no matter the situation, their choices affect each other in hilarious ways. Extremely NSFW (that IS a censored penis head in the logo, after all!) Morgan’s Organs provides laugh-out-loud comedy that will keep you engaged, page after page.

Last year James Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. With Brightburn in theaters, Suicide Squad 2 next in the pipeline, and rehired by Disney, Gunn spoke with Deadline about the past year and where he finds himself now. How did the firing change him and why does he consider the day he was fired the “best” and “worst” day of his life? Gunn’s story and experience is one that we should all be paying close attention to and learning from. In his own words “People have to be able to learn from mistakes. If we take away the possibility for someone to learn and become a better person, I’m not sure what we are left with.”

Few scenes are as iconic as the first lightsaber battle in Star Wars: A New Hope. Darth Vader and Obi-wan Kenobi, arch-enemies, facing each other one final time. When later we learn of their true relationship, it makes that scene even heavier. Of course, it was the first scene of its kind and the choreography was… Lacking, to say the least. Especially when faced with the stunning work we see in future films. But fans over at FXitinPost decided that it could be … well. Fixed. They took the heart and soul of the scene and reworked into something that does better justice to what the scene could’ve been.

Afropunk refers to the participation of African Americans and other black people in punk and alternative subcultures like Cyberpunk and alternative history fiction similar to Steampunk. Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer comes off as a breath of fresh air with a unique perspective and vivid storytelling.

Love or hate it, Game of Thrones is a phenomenon. Few shows in history can boast being this big. Even its mistakes become media controlling phenomenon. All shows have a few slip-ups here and there. You’d expect that from a show with as many moving parts as Game of Thrones. But last week’s coffee cup scandal had people in a tizzy. Seeing a blatant piece of the modern world in their medieval fantasy made some folks lose their minds. This certainly couldn’t be the only time a goof like this has happened on the show, so… why the fuss?
