He may live in a pineapple under the sea, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get to see another season of this beloved children’s (and immature adult’s) television series on Nickelodeon! SpongeBob SquarePants, the longest-running animated series on the children-themed network has been greenlit for a 12th season and it will debut on the series’ 20th anniversary, which is unfortunately a couple of years away. Fear not though, the studio is knocking out an entire 26-episiode season and all of our favorite animated squids, crabs, whales, snails, and squirrels will be back!

Adult Swim pulled a fast one on fans when they ‘leaked’ the first episode for Rick and Morty’s third season as a reverse April Fool’s gag, but fans have been eagerly awaiting more of the hit show. Adult Swim has granted us all a reprieve from the disturbingly long wait for more content and it came in the form of a surprise tie-in with the release of Alien: Covenant. While that film isn’t receiving the greatest reviews right now, it fits perfectly into a universe that sees a brilliantly deranged alcoholic scientist who travels the cosmos getting into wacky adventures.  (more…)

Just about everyone growing up in the 1990s who had an NES will be happy to learn that some of CAPCOM’s greatest games of the era based on some Disney classics are getting a remake and re-release! Disney Afternoon featured two hours of beloved Disney characters all tied to the same shared universe. Darkwing Duck, Talespin, DuckTales, and Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers entertained kids (and let’s face it, plenty of adults) every afternoon. CAPCOM had the task of turning these beloved products into video games, and now they are coming back for an entirely new generation of fans.

For all the crude humour that was clearly directed at adults, Guardians of the Galaxy had all the right ingredients to be a hit for all the family. As well as the hotly anticipated sequel due for release later on this year, the movie inspired a spinoff series on the kids’ channel Disney XD starring its two most kid-friendly characters, Rocket and Groot. As is often the way with these things, the cartoon was just as popular with adults as with children. It was announced last year at Comic Con that that show would extend to a 12-part web series. As we are in an age of cord-cutting, and streaming services, there seems to be an endless supply of getting the goods you want in an Internet age. Of course, we have the heavies like Netflix ($9/month), Amazon ($99/year), Hulu Plus ($8/month), Playstation Vue ($50/month), Sling ($20/month), HBO Now ($15/month), CBS All Access ($6/month), and many others. There’s pretty much a paid (and free) subscription streaming service for anything you are interested in. Now cartoon fans, you also will have your own service to watch Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry, and many others as well.

While DC‘s Cinematic Universe could arguably be called a steaming pile of mess, the animated side is kicking butt and taking names. No one can quite figure out how Warner Bros. and DC can crank out fantastic animated movies and series while dropping loads at the box office. Once again the animated looks to put the live action in the corner with the release of Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. Check out the trailer below. (more…)

A New ‘X-Men’ Animated Series In The Works?

For everyone who grew up during the ’90s and watched the original X-Men The Animated Series, it looks like Marvel has begun development of another entry into the X-Universe and it may be more adult-oriented than previous attempts. There are not many details yet as to who is developing the show and for which network, but a recent leak/rumor has indicated that an announcement should be coming sometime this year.

Genndy Tartakovsky‘s Samurai Jack makes its triumphant return to Adult Swim on March 11th. Jack isn’t having much fun since the time we last saw him. In fact, he’s gone through a bit of a 50-year rough patch. This 5th season promises to be an exciting one for Samurai Jack fans as Jack tries to make his way back to the past. (more…)

For those who grew up during the 1980s, Don Bluth’s (The Land Before Time, An American Tail, and All Dogs Go to Heaven) wonderful adaptation of The Secret of NIMH both entertained and terrified. Bluth and his studio put out some amazing animated films throughout the 1980s and 1990s, but The Secret of NIMH was probably the best of them all. The film came out in 1982 and the rights have passed to a new studio so it’s time for a new adaptation to entertain an entirely new generation of children. That’s right, The Secret of NIMH is getting a remake and it has found its director.
