Cartoons

Thanks to Netflix, a new generation of fans are being brought into the world of Voltron (with the release of Voltron Legendary Defenders Season 3 just dropping this morning!). Back in the 1980s, kids could play with a special die-cast set of all the tigers and combine them into a tall Voltron set. It was cool, but it was also very expensive so few kids had them and they are highly collectible now. With so many new toys hitting the market, it’s time for a new Voltron set anyone can afford and play with, so LEGO has come to the rescue by approving a fanmade set of the legendary hero!

It took the folks responsible for The Simpsons 17 years to put out a film based on their hit property and it has been a decade since that film first came out. Talks of a sequel have been going on since that first film was released and it seems the yellow family of prime time just might be making a return to the silver screen and another seven years of waiting might not be in the cards.

While many companies have no clue when it comes to handling social media marketing, there are a few that truly get it and stand above the rest. Arby‘s cardboard artist is one example of a company doing it right. McDonald‘s just joined those ranks with a smooth and crafty gift for Justin Roiland, co-creator of Rick and Morty. Check out the details below. (more…)

The king of prime-time animation himself, Matt Groening, is moving forward with Disenchantment, his long-gestating animated comedy fantasy series with Netflix. The break from Fox could have something to do with the manner in which the studio treated his second hit animated series, Futurama, but either way, Groening, and Netflix are proceeding with a 20-episode order and we even have some casting news to announce.

AnimaniacsThe early to mid 90’s was a golden era for animation. We had ducks with tales and dark wings, there were ancient Scottish gargoyles protecting New York (from Commander Riker, no less,) heck even the Simpson’s wasn’t completely terrible yet. In those hyper-color™ halcyon days, Warner Bros. had an amazingly successful run with the likes of the animated adventures of Batman, Superman, and even a unique twist on their Looney Tunes stable with Tiny Toon Adventures. It truly was the a great time for cartoons.

Decades later, WB’s (and humanities,) greatest cartoon might be making it’s return. So just sit back and relax because it just might be time for more Animaniacs! (more…)

He may live in a pineapple under the sea, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get to see another season of this beloved children’s (and immature adult’s) television series on Nickelodeon! SpongeBob SquarePants, the longest-running animated series on the children-themed network has been greenlit for a 12th season and it will debut on the series’ 20th anniversary, which is unfortunately a couple of years away. Fear not though, the studio is knocking out an entire 26-episiode season and all of our favorite animated squids, crabs, whales, snails, and squirrels will be back!

Adult Swim pulled a fast one on fans when they ‘leaked’ the first episode for Rick and Morty’s third season as a reverse April Fool’s gag, but fans have been eagerly awaiting more of the hit show. Adult Swim has granted us all a reprieve from the disturbingly long wait for more content and it came in the form of a surprise tie-in with the release of Alien: Covenant. While that film isn’t receiving the greatest reviews right now, it fits perfectly into a universe that sees a brilliantly deranged alcoholic scientist who travels the cosmos getting into wacky adventures.  (more…)

Just about everyone growing up in the 1990s who had an NES will be happy to learn that some of CAPCOM’s greatest games of the era based on some Disney classics are getting a remake and re-release! Disney Afternoon featured two hours of beloved Disney characters all tied to the same shared universe. Darkwing Duck, Talespin, DuckTales, and Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers entertained kids (and let’s face it, plenty of adults) every afternoon. CAPCOM had the task of turning these beloved products into video games, and now they are coming back for an entirely new generation of fans.
