All eyes are going to be on the Avengers and their pending Infinity War, but long before that, we’re finally going to see Marvel’s street-level, and streetwise, heroes team up for The Defenders. The series launches next month on Netflix, so the hype-building has begun and frankly not much has to be done because we’ve been building up to this for three years now. So what can they do to help sell this movie in face of that? How about bringing on the guy who knows Marvel heroes better than anyone? (more…)
At this point, Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss can pretty much write their own ticket. The HBO show based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice novels (still waiting for you to finish them George!) is in its 7th season and going strong after this week’s season premiere. As this is Game of Thrones’ penultimate season before the big climactic conclusion of the much-loved show, everyone is wondering what is next for the famed duo. After all, they managed to give us Martin’s brilliant work and have millions of people absorbed in the world of Westeros. Whatever they do next will have to be something just as big (and just as good).
The ratings for Game of Thrones’ seventh season premiere have not yet been posted, but given that the premiere was delayed, it’s the second last season of the show, and that Thrones is one of the biggest shows on TV, the size of the audience watching it is predictably going to be huge. Until we get more empirical evidence, maybe we can make the point this way: excitement over the Game of Thrones premiere was so huge that it caused HBO to crash. Or its websites anyway. (more…)
Marvel‘s new series Runaways has had a new trailer put on the Internet, not through official channels it seems, but the new Hulu bound series trailer does show the whole gang and sets up the series premise of super villain parents and the teenagers that discover their parents horrible secret. Check out the trailer below while it’s still up and running. (more…)
Welcome to episode 10 of Twin Peaks‘ revival run, and the question remains, what version of the show are we going to get this night? Is it going to be confusingly psychedelic, or are we going to take another step forward in trying to unravel some of the things that have been brewing since the beginning? It turns out that David Lynch and Mark Frost‘s approach this week was the later. The noose that Dougie Jones doesn’t know about is closing on him, the FBI goes deeper into the case, and Richard Horne gives us a couple of other reasons to hate him. (more…)
The wait is finally over. Winter has finally come! Complete with an HBO countdown clock, Game of Thrones returned to the premiere pay channel Sunday night, and when last we left off, Daenerys was on her way to Westeros and had teamed up with the Greyjoy siblings, the Tyrells, and the Sands to take the fight to Cersei and claim the throne.
Cersei had not only defeated the High Sparrow, but after unleashing Wildfire like the Mad King did before her, she now has assumed the throne (thanks to her son’s suicide), and her brother-lover Jaime doesn’t look too happy about it.
Arya started to enact her vengeance and killed Walder Frey after serving him his own sons as part of a meat pie! Sam has made it to the Citadel to learn from the Maesters on how to stop the White Walkers. Jon Snow has been crowned King of the North by the Northern families, oh yeah, and he’s also Lyanna Stark’s bastard child, not Ned’s, which means Jon’s really a Targaryen! With so many running stories, Season 7 promises to be exciting!
Tonight (Sunday, July 16) Game of Thrones returns for it’s seventh and penultimate season. If you were planning on binge watching the entire series prior to the new seasons premiere but don’t have the 600+ plus hours to spare, you’re in luck! The fine folk over at HBO, the shows home network, have crammed the past six season into this slick little 5 minute refresher. (more…)
Today we have proof that internet rumors and the tracking of London gambling establishments are nothing to go by, as the BBC has announced the identity of the actor who will play the Doctor in the legendary sci-fi series Doctor Who going forward. And in news that will surely be painful to the ears of men’s rights activists everywhere, the 13th Doctor will have to cope with not just not being a ginger, but being a woman. For the first time in franchise history, the Doctor will be played by a lady, Jodie Whittaker.
In what will likely be one of the biggest reveals of the week, and coming squeezed between D23 and San Diego Comic Con that’s really saying something, the BBC has set sometime on Sunday as the world premiere revelation of the identity of the new Doctor, the thirteenth iteration of the time travelling alien from Doctor Who. The series tenth season ended earlier this month, and it was fairly clear that the Doctor was on the brink of regeneration. Now, it’s two more sleeps till we learn what that regeneration will look like later this year. (more…)
Just when you thought awards season was over, think again! Yes, the dead of summer is also the time we learn who in TV is worth lavishing with awards courtesy of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Like any TV year in these days of Peak TV, there’s a definite amount of suspense with so many great TV shows and so few slots for nominees, and this year probably proved more difficult than ever to choose who to award. The nominations announced a short while ago by Veep co-star Anna Chlumsky and S.W.A.T. co-star Shemar Moore at the Saban Media Centre reflect that, and this year, the rookies won big. (more…)
