The first of several proposed sequels to James Cameron’s Avatar will finally come to theaters at some point in 2018. By the time Avatar 2 comes out, it will have been 10 years since the release of the first film from 2008. Time certainly has not been on the franchise side. It’s been so long, that nobody seems to care anymore, right? Well, the people at Disney World certainly do. They dumped a ton a money, to the sum of $500+ mil, into a massive park expansion. First announced on September 20 2011, the long awaited AVATAR-themed land at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom will finally be opening in summer 2017. Those disinterested in Avatar are now, thanks to videos like the one below, being drawn right back into it. Even for those that make fun of Avatar have to appreciate what Disney and James Cameron have been cooking up.
Here, get a behind the scenes look at Pandora: The World of AVATAR coming this summer to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort, and have a look for yourself.
Before Ant-Man made his big-screen debut, if fans were asked whether they would ever imagine dropping a couple hundred dollars for an Ant-Man figurine, the question would have been met with a hearty balk look followed by a “How dare you, sir!” slap across the face, but here we are. Ant-Man got his solo movie and a favorable return appearance in Captain America: Civil War. Oh, how easily those early doubters were converted into fans. What was once a laughably lame hero (“You mean his power is he can make himself really small?”) turned out to be far more impressive than anyone would or could have expected – the character was received as a charming and winning edition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Suddenly, spending a little scratch on a high-end collectible Ant-Man figure doesn’t sound so absurd. (more…)
The kind of classic film that appeals to every generation, complete with a festive setting that promises it will get fresh attention at least once a year, Home Alone has reached millions of people with its slapstick humour. There is nothing that is funny in quite the same way as watching an apparently innocent child show a couple of textbook bad guys who’s really in charge. Macauley Culkin’s Kevin McCallister has likely been responsible for a lot of damage across the world caused by pranks inspired by his attempt to defend his home from intruders. (more…)

For a lot of cosplayers, creative costuming skills are developed through a desire to pay homage to their favourite characters as accurately as possible. The better a creator gets at crafting and sewing and designing clothes, the more impressive their cosplays look. Often, you see how someone’s skills are improving from cosplay to cosplay. For Lena, the creative mind behind Saddle the Hipogriffs Cosplay, cosplay provided an outlet for her lifelong love of sewing. Discovering cosplay provided the perfect hobby to blend her existing creative passion and her love of her favourite pop culture characters. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. And the most expensive. Heating bills rise in the chilly weather, decorations aren’t exactly cheap and it seems like there are more and more people to buy for every year. It doesn’t help that the perfect gifts for the nerds you love can reach some eye-wateringly high prices. The passion of some collectors can drive costs to extremes. And that’s not always a bad thing. Without the fervour of people like that, a lot of cool comics and other interesting bits and pieces might never be propelled to the platforms they deserve. But it does mean that the common or garden nerd can be priced out of the some of the more exciting merchandise. (more…)
December has finally arrived and there’s only a couple of weeks left to get all your Christmas shopping sorted. A lot of the more organised among us will already have most of it done and will now only be struggling with the people who are trickiest to buy for. Others might not start thinking about it for another week or so yet. Either way, it’s more than likely that there will be a friend or two whose gift you can’t quite peg – nerds, after all, can be notoriously difficult to buy for. (more…)
At Disney’s Epcot theme park in Orlando, Fl sits the park’s signature landmark – Spaceship Earth. This giant 180′ ft tall round globe has been a staple attraction ever since the park opened in 1982. It stands front and center, greeting guests to a world of imagination. While foreboding looking, its presence gets knocked down a peg thanks to its not so exciting innards. The ride inside is a boring and highly inaccurate tram ride through human’s technological history *fart noise*. Still, it’s a giant sphere. Giant spheres are cool! And it’s going to look even cooler. On Dec 5th, just in time for Star Wars: Rogue One, the worlds largest looking golfball will be transformed in a freakin’ Death Star! (more…)
The 2016 Presidential Election was one for the ages. No matter your political affiliation, you can’t deny that this was one of the most contentious, antagonistic, and downright nasty campaigns in recent history. Given the results of the election, it doesn’t appear that the current divide is going to be healed anytime soon. This was the ultimate “Marvel vs DC” campaign, times 1000, and this country will be feeling the effects for it for years and years to come. One thing that many people keeps saying about the two headliners was that they were the least liked candidates in recent memory and voters had to hold their noses and vote for the “lesser of two evils.” Some members of the electorate either opted not to vote, others had another idea in mind: the write-in candidate, and there were some interesting choices.
