So this is clearly not conducive to today’s climate/culture, what with the #MeToo and #TimeUpMovement (keep it going ladies, duders and everyone in-between!) but dare we say this Evil Dead female Ash statue is sexy as hell. Or at the very least, a lot easier on the eyes than Bruce Campbell? (more…)

So… cosplayers, right? There are thousands of them out there out there all dressed up in their fanciest, and often elaborate costumes showing off their love and support of pop culture’s biggest (and oftentimes most obscure) icons. Sadly, playing dress up is beyond the capability of most fan-boys and girls who’s sewing and craft skills are limited to folded paper pirate hats and projects that only require some well-placed duct tape. For the lazy, the cheap, and the not so clothing craft inclined, there is a company that is offering stylistic jackets to help you feel/look like a hero without all the hassle. (more…)

Whether you come to comic-con looking for toys, panels, or to raid the back issue bins in search of those books that you need to fill your collection, you can’t miss the breathtaking cosplay that fills the show floor. Homemade costumes that took months of nights spent losing fingerprints to a glue gun or hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of dollars spent on pro made props that help to blur the line between fan film grade — both were all over the Jacob Javitz Center for New York Comic Con this past weekend. And while no one could capture all of the wildly imaginative and incredibly geeky looks, we did pull a few selections from our time there for you to see. Rick and Morty, Negan, Game Of Thrones, and a few surprises — hopefully there’s something for every single fan.
Thanks to Netflix, a new generation of fans are being brought into the world of Voltron (with the release of Voltron Legendary Defenders Season 3 just dropping this morning!). Back in the 1980s, kids could play with a special die-cast set of all the tigers and combine them into a tall Voltron set. It was cool, but it was also very expensive so few kids had them and they are highly collectible now. With so many new toys hitting the market, it’s time for a new Voltron set anyone can afford and play with, so LEGO has come to the rescue by approving a fanmade set of the legendary hero!
Every year, fans come in droves to San Diego Comic Con. Among those fans, there are those who brave the heat and wear elaborate costumes to show their support for their favorite characters. Extensive research, planning, and construction can go into these labors of love. Other times, it’s just cardboard and paint. Whatever the level of skill and commitment, one truth is clear: everyone loves cosplay! Without further ado, here are some of the cosplayers we encountered at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.
Most people would like assume that you’d have to be a pretty smart cookie to be the creative mind behind some of the biggest, most popular movies of the modern age. It stands to reason that if you can write a deep and gripping story set in a well developed world that spans universes, starring a diverse cast of complex and interesting characters – not just once, but time and time again – you’re probably quite intelligent. Then there are other people who assume that it doesn’t take too much common sense to have the creative output of someone like James Gunn and that it wouldn’t be all that hard to trick them. (more…)
Hey, do you remember Pinball – those coffin-shaped boxes where you hit a silver ball around a chaotic playfield? If you thought this game of skill died out in the 90’s, you’d be wrong. Sure, Pinball machines are no longer as prevalent in arcades, bowling alleys, or bars as they once were; but the culture of Pinball is alive and well. Despite the staggering decline in pinball gaming, new machines are being made all the time. Particularly to promote pop movie and television licenses; with such titles as: The Walking Dead, Star Trek, The Avengers, Game of Thrones, Ghostbusters and more.
If the Force isn’t strong in pinball, how about this… Stern Pinball has announced that it is making a special 40th anniversary Star Wars pinball machine! (more…)
A wise man once said that for everything in life there is a perfect form of it somewhere in the universe, and if there is a perfect form of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it would likely be the Murakami-Wolf-Swenson animated series from 1987. It took the Turtles from an underground independent comic to being one of the most profitable I.P.s with an expansive empire of merchandise to their name. So let’s add more! If you are in a nostalgic mood, or merely love awesome looking toys and collectibles, you will definitely want to take note of these items available next month at San Diego Comic Con. (more…)
