Universal has announced a few of their upcoming films’ release dates, including Kick-Ass 2 which will come to theatres June 28, 2013. Also releasing next year will be Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges in R.I.P.D on July 19, 2013 and 2 Guns starring Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington on August 16, 2013.
All right, so next summer is beginning to look a little crowded, particularly for comic book movies. Surprise surprise. Here’s what else we’ve got to look forward to in 2013: Iron Man 3 (May 3), Man of Steel (June 14) and The Wolverine (July 26). Plus, don’t forget Thor 2 is coming out sometime in November. And just like this past summer it appears to be a Marvel heavy one with only one DC contender.
And something that I’m sure is relevant to most of your interests: Jurassic Park in 3D has been given a new release date of July 19, 2013. I know, I know, it’s a blatant cash grab but I don’t care, it’s JURASSIC PARK, in theatres again! 3D or not, I’m there.
Of all the comic book movies releasing next year, which are you most pumped for? Which could you give a flying fuck about?

Stephen Grant’s graphic novel 2 Guns has been in pre-production for nearing on 5 years now, switching up cast and enduring delays. Now, with nearly a full cast signed, it looks like it’s just about ready to go. The latest addition to a line-up of talent that includes Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg – the almighty Admiral of BSG, Edward James Olmos.
Olmos has recently been cast as the Mexican drug lord Papi Greco. Those that know Olmos also know that he has no problem playing a truly nasty-bastard villain when he gets the chance. The last season of Dexter proved his capabilities at being a bad guy and, apparently, whet his appetite for more such roles.
The graphic novel version of 2 Guns follows the antics of a DEA agent (Washington) and an undercover Navy SEAL (Wahlberg) as they steal a pile of cash from the CIA whilst unwittingly working for the mob. I haven’t read it personally, but it sounds like a properly action-packed thriller for all the big names on board. Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband) will be directing the adaptation.
While the cast involved on the acting side look fairly impressive given the subject, one has to wonder whether Kormakur is up to the task. Given the tepid Contraband, there is a risk that all this wonderful talent may be wasted. Still, it will be cool to see Olmos playing the bad guy again at the very least.
Thanks to comingsoon for the info.
Universal Studios is taking Steven Grant‘s graphic novel, 2 Guns, onto the big screen. Playing a CIA operative, Bill Paxton will be co-starring with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg.
I haven’t seen Paxton in anything that he’s done, but I hear that he did a really good job in the Hatfields and McCoys miniseries on the History Channel.
The film will be directed by Baltasar Kormakur (known for Contraband) and the screenplay was written by Blake Masters.
From Coming Soon:
“2 Guns” is a pulp story about cops and thieves and the men that are something in between. In the graphic novel, Trench has targeted a local bank to rob, and asked Steadman in on the job. Trench figures it’s a great way to score – considering it’s a cover for mob money. They’ll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesn’t know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesn’t know is that Steadman’s got his own secret and isn’t who he appears to be.
