The subscription service that is revolutionising the way the west watches television, Netflix became a household name practically overnight. Having all your favourite shows and a boatload of movies available to view on demand makes life so much easier for anyone with a job or a hobby or a life, who can’t always be there when shows are broadcast live. It saves having to remember to record stuff and costs a hell of a lot less than buying or renting everything you want to watch individually. Already instrumental in forging the future of home viewing, Netflix moved into creating its own original content in 2013.
There are tons of things you can watch to get to grips with the kind of content Netflix is capable of creating, and it’s well worth doing. Though it’s as guilty of the occasional dud as any other network, there is enough great quality original stuff on there to keep you occupied for months on end.
If you’re new to Netflix and want somewhere to start, you could do a lot worse than checking out these cool shows. (more…)
Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut.
Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at email@example.com.
It’s another Star Wars Stands Up 2 Cancer video featuring Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, Andy Samberg, Emma Stone, Aziz Ansari, Jaime King, Zach Galifinakis, Ken Jeong, and Samuel L. Jackson. This one goes in a slightly more serious direction as the stars talk about how cancer has affected them. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of dorky lightsaber gags.
We touched on this briefly in Nerdy Bits earlier today, but since then Stand Up To Cancer and Lucasfilm have released a video celebrating their new collaboration. In it some Star Wars fans, who also happen to be celebrities, reenact famous scenes from the original trilogy to raise awareness for the new charitable venture.
Aziz Ansari, Emma Stone, Andy Samberg, Ed Helms, Seth Rogen, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Jamie King and Samuel L. Jackson all take part is this amusing video. I really wanted this to be outstanding and hilarious, but it just didn’t quite deliver, it’s worth a watch though. Whether it’s funny or not doesn’t really matter , it’s to support the cancer-stopping powers of the organization Stand Up To Cancer. Or at least their possibly, hopefully we’ll one day cure cancer powers.
The t-shirts shown in the vid are available for purchases over at their website, www.standup2cancer.org/usetheforce. But in addition to sweet tees you can also bid on some swanky stuff, like a “one-of-a-kind Star Wars edition 2012 Volkswagen Passat and dinner with filmmakers including George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, John Lasseter, Chris Columbus and Phillip Kaufman.” Yes, dinner with George Lucas. Maybe you can mention what you thought about the Blu-rays….err, maybe you shouldn’t mention that. To bid on the auction items check out their eBay page.
It look’s like we’re one step closer to hearing the Ecto-1 squeel around New York city once again. Maybe. Probably not.
Sources close to the Ghostbusters 3 project have been talking and word is that Columbia Pictures is circling Aziz Ansari for a role in the long overdue third picture. A very funny individual and co-star of 30 Seconds or Less is a perfect selection to add to the ghost busting team, but this is only internal talk, meaning don`t start spilling your ectoplasmic residue with joy all over the computer.
If Columbia does decide to follow through, and Aziz accepts, then he`ll join Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver who are all supposedly confirmed for reprises. Ivan Reitman will also return to (eventually) direct, but it all hinges on Bill Murray who is rumored to be holding up the progress.
“A ragtag group of paranormal researchers reopen their notorious ghost removal service, and a new generation of Ghostbusters is brought on board to be green slimed and trained to contain the mischievous spirits.”
Having a comedic mind like Aziz`s is something the studio heads need to get on before it`s too late. It might be a few more weeks, months, or years before we hear anything else. So don`t cross the streams just yet.
