Amy Schumer Responds To Her Barbie Movie Backlash

amy-schumer-barbie

In a completely unexpected but bold movie development move, it was announced that Amy Schumer will be starring in and co-writing a new live-action Barbie film, with the comedian said to play the titular character; based on the classic American doll from Mattel. While the films premise – a contemporary spin having Barbie realize she no longer fits within the idealistic Barbieland – makes for an interesting take, it’s the casting of Schumer that has gotten a lot of backlash. This blowback, all having to do with Schumer’s looks, or rather lack thereof, in comparison to the tall/skinny and impossibly beautiful standards that Barbie is known for.  The Internet can be quite cruel.

Schumer has responded to this vitriol, with a self-affirming statement that would make SNL’s former Stuart Smalley (the Daily Affirmation sketch) jealous.  (more…)

Over the fifty-something years since her introduction, Mattel‘s flagship girl’s fashion doll, Barbie, has been the object of as much scorn and controversy as love and devotion. The perennial issue driving the anti-Barbie movement is her wildly unrealistic measurements and bodily proportions. It is believed by many (and apparently backed up by statistics) that Barbie’s impossible curves make her an inappropriate role model for little girls, and are also causing sales of the doll to plummet.

Well, a Mattel executive has decided to step into the arena and defend Barbie’s bod. (more…)

15 Television Shows That Made My Childhood Memorable

MAIN TV

(An Article by Ghost Writer Crystal Halcott)

When I was growing up I remember simply: having a good time. We used to play Kick The Can and Hide and Seek and climb trees. We would roll ourselves down the small hill in the neighborhood and play in the woods. We would stay out late during the summer and go in and out of the neighbor’s houses playing video games in the basement or playing Barbie’s in the bedrooms. We would have sleepovers almost every weekend and stay up late planning the next day’s activities. We also had great television! Nowadays it is full of reality crap that no one gives a damn about. Back then, and I’m talking the 80’s and early 90’s, there was so much GOOD television. Interesting shows that you just could NOT miss. Shows you would skip dinner for and shows you would purposely loose Kick The Can for. I remember those shows and they will always have a special place in my heart. So here they are, in no particular order (and please feel free to let me know what your FAVES are as well)…

New “So In Style” Dolls Stir Racial Controversy

(Far Right: “Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch?”)

Stacy McBride-Irby was a Barbie designer for 12 years and just released her own brand of African American (Black) girl action figures, which has a lot of folks up in arms. Why? Because people think it gives little girls the wrong idea about what a black doll should represent…
