Black Widow

Little is known of that mysterious masked man who stalks the crime-infested streets of Norfolk, Virginia. Is he a mild-mannered student invested with superhuman abilities after an encounter with a radioactive arachnid? Is he the sole inheritor of an outrageous fortune, forced to turn to fighting crime to avenge his fallen loved ones? Is he a bored student with basic sewing skills and too much time on his hands? All we know for sure is that they call him The Black Widow, and that it’s definitely the last one. (more…)

Would Joss Whedon Make a Black Widow Movie? “Duh”

Black-Widow-Marvel-Standalone-Movie

If you like female superheroes then this was a good year at San Diego Comic Con for you because on the one hand Warner Bros. gave us the first Wonder Woman trailer, and on the other Marvel Studios introduced us to Captain Marvel Brie Larson. But come on! We know that there’s been one superheroine that’s been kicking butt since the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for years fans have said that she deserves her own movie. Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow getting the solo spotlight she’s earned is still sadly a long way off, but if Marvel is interested, a director with a proven track record in the MCU might be willing to help make it happen. Black Widow

Ever since her introduction in Iron Man 2, Natasha Romanoff AKA Black Widow has continued to expand her presence and impact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). One of the few Avengers that doesn’t have powers or superior technology, her superpower is that she’s a badass assassin-spy who can hang with anyone in combat. She’s rated Tony Stark’s effectiveness in Iron Man 2, helped save the world from the Chitauri in The Avengers, and helped expose Hydra’s infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However every time there is a discussion related to her getting her own solo film, it gets shut down. Fans have been wanting for years for her to get her own film. In a recent poll for Fandango/USA Today asking who should get next solo film, Black Widow won with 48% of the vote. So why hasn’t Black Widow already gotten her own solo film? (more…)

‘Supergirl’ Talks About Making Women Proud and Pressure

melissabenoist

Anyone that’s ever made a superhero movie or TV show can tell you about the thunderous and often unfair criticism received from fandom before even one second of a production ever screens. That’s the kind of pressure that can ruin you. So now imagine being the first brand name female superhero to enter the current, crowded TV superhero landscape. When the first six-minute trailer for Supergirl hit the web last month, the reaction was, let’s just say, less than kind. Unfavorable comparisons were made to a certain Saturday Night Live sketch feature Scarlett Johansson in a Black Widow solo movie, but Supergirl herself, Melissa Benoist, says that your fears are ungrounded. Fanboys and fangirls have been clamoring for a Black Widow solo movie for ages. For whatever reason, Marvel does not have any immediate plans in giving everyone’s favorite butt-kicking red head her own starring vehicle.  Leave it to SNL to deliver what Marvel will not.

They made a hilarious parody trailer for Black Widow: Age of Me and it follows the international assassin as she takes on an internship at Fashion Weekly magazine and starts a complicated romantic relationship with the new man in her life, Ultron. (more…)

Following the reveal of Black Widow, Hot Toys has released a first look at the 1/6th scale Hawkeye Collectible Figure! The sharp shooting Avenger is specially crafted based on the image of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in Avengers: Age of Ultron, featuring a newly-developed head sculpt, new outfit, improved articulations for action poses, freshly designed bow and arrows, and a specially designed figure stand.

Not as good as the new Avenging Hawkeye figure, because there is no Pizza Dog. But it will be a must-have if you wanna complete your Avengers AOU collection. That, and who couldn’t do with a little more Jeremy Renner in their lives. He’s like a real life grumpy cat. (more…)

Jackson picked up the ball today and tweeted out three new Character posters, Nick Fury, Thor, and the Black Widow. All this is leading to something in a few days, what could it be? (more…)

This week’s episode of Marvel’s Agent Carter finds Peggy getting to know her new friend Dottie over a cup of tea and a baguette. These two New York City women exchange stories about love, work, and the dating in the Big Apple. Just kidding! This isn’t Sex In the City!  What’s more interesting is what they didn’t talk about – their past work as secret agents, how to kill a man, and the challenges of living double lives. Almost their own own ‘iron ceiling’ of sorts. In all fairness, we’re pretty sure some Carrie Bradshaw voice-over could have been amazing from the POV of Dottie as she nefariously conducted her plans, “I started to wonder, in a city as cynical as New York, is it still possible to believe in love at first sight?”
