One of Deadpool’s best partners in the comics is Cable, the time-traveling, techno-organic virus, take no prisoners, leader of X-Force (who is also the son of Cyclops and a clone of Jean Grey). The two have a unique relationship and have gone on many adventures together throughout the comics. The stinger at the end of Deadpool was that Cable would be featured in the sequel and also have a significant role in the film. Although we still don’t know who will be playing Nathan Summers just yet, the screenwriters are now trying to give him a coherent origin story to translate to film.
Fan Films are a hit or miss proposition most days, either it’s cringe worthy or like K&K Productions‘ Cable: Chronicles of Hope, hits it right out of the park. The title tells you that Cable is involved, and considering the trouble Cable’s casting has had on the Deadpool sequel, one should expect some explosive action and C:COH delivers. Hopefully Ryan Reynolds will get a peek at this take notes. (more…)
In the post-credits scene from Deadpool, they did a great callback to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off where Deadpool tells the audience “it’s over, go home.” During the scene, he comments on how some marvel films give a post-credits reveal, but Deadpool’s not that kind of movie. Of course he then completely reneges and says that there will be a sequel, and Cable will be in it. Comic book fans love the time-traveling mutant son of Cyclops and Jean Grey clone Madelyne Pryor who helped turn the New Mutants into the elite fighting force, X-Force. One member of X-Force who Cable has had a long history with is Domino.
Deadpool was not only a great, incredibly fun flick that finally vindicated poor Ryan Reynolds in a superhero movie after the disasters that were Blade: Trinity, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Green Lantern, it also shattered records for an R-rated release, causing Hollywood to rethink its strategy regarding the content of blockbusters. The man largely credited with this success is the director of the film, Tim Miller, who was able to deftly balance brutal violence with meta humor, while still managing to make the mostly despicable characters sympathetic. Now, some are beginning to worry that Fox Studios may be falling into that old Hollywood trap of unnecessary studio interference of a high-stakes project as the studio and Miller reportedly disagree on the casting of beloved comic book character Cable.

At a recent stop over at The Nerdist to promote his latest film Kindergarten Cop 2, perennial 80’s action star Dolph Lundgren threw his hat into the Deadpool 2 Cable casting ring. So soon after the first film – which has not yet made it onto home release – any future projects, strictly speaking, are yet to be confirmed. (more…)
Even before Deadpool was a blockbuster success during its opening weekend, fans were crowing that Deadpool was going to rock their comic book movie world. FOX was also very confident in the new movie, green-lighting a sequel before that opening weekend.
