Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The first trailer for Captain America: Civil War hit the Internet a couple of days ago thanks to Jimmy Kimmel Live and it is a wonderful, almost joyous look at what’s going on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There’s no big alien cloud threatening the world, it’s just what we’re willing and eager to do to one another regardless of the consequences. That means this movie is a lot more about characters and their motivations, but don’t worry, just like the trailer showed us, there will be plenty of fighting action. The Russo brothers are the creative force behind the camera on Captain America: Civil War and they talked with Empire about the movie, deconstructing the main plot lines. (more…)

While it started with Iron Man 3 and ended with Ant-Man, Marvel‘s Phase 2 water was carried by the Russo brother’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy. Both of those films really kicked it out of the park and raised the bar on what people expect from their superhero movies. Now Marvel is releasing the Blu/Ray DVD boxed set that collects Phase 2 in all its glory. (more…)

There’s more sidelines video coming out of Anthony and Joe Russo’s Captain America: Civil War set, this time around we’ve got Cap (Chris Evans) and Crossbones (Frank Grillo) going toe to toe in an open air market. IF the Russo brothers take this one to the next level after Captain America: The Winter Soldier, then we’re in for a hell of a ride! (more…)

Avengers: Age of Ultron is introducing some fairly heavy weight Marvel comic book characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe starting with Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). To help audiences get ready for all these new characters The Mighty-Marvel-Marketing-Powers-That-Be have put together this little intro video with director Joss Whedon. (more…)

ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) has just released a Special Effects Sizzle Reel for Marvel‘s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It’s a fantastic look at the meshing of technology and actors, of how the two are combined to create the incredible scenes of CA:TWS. While no one should hold their breath for a Marvel movie to end up on the Oscar’s Best Picture Nomination list, we should see some nods to the special effects works from both Anthony & Joe Russo‘s CA:TWS and James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy. In the comic book version of Marvel’s Civil War, a pretty key part is played by Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man; his backing of Tony Stark and the pro-registration movement was the watershed moment in the miniseries when Spidey unmasked as Peter Parker at the end of Civil War #2. When the plot line of the third Captain America was revealed to be based on Civil War, many fans wondered if it was a sign that Spidey might come home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially after rumblings over the last several months (confirmed by e-mails released by hackers last week) that Sony was looking at a Spider-Sharing deal with Walt Disney and Marvel Studios. As we know now though, that talk was just talk, and sources inside Marvel are confirming that Captain America: Civil War is now proceeding without Spider-Man. (more…)

Russo Bros

More news straight from the recently robbed Sony vault people; and we have a mix of revelations to dish out (once piece in particular leaving Sony Entertainment Chairman Amy Pascal, looking rather “two-faced,”). With emails bouncing back and forth like a swing band full of ritalin and sugar-pop, overtice.com have been able to extract some more voyeuristically joyful imformation that we are relishing – in a schadenfreudian sense, of course – due to the torrent of bad movies they have assaulted our senses with in the past decade. It’s nothing personal (…oh, wait… maybe it is?!), as, if you are a fan of the Spiderman comics like myself, perhaps, you too, will be rubbing your hand together before reading this tangled web of a mess, feeling nothing but unadulterated gleefulness’. Hugo Weaving as Red Skull

Hugo Weaving isn’t a stranger when it comes to playing characters from comic book adaptations, and he certainly isn’t a stranger when it comes to the wider geek-friendly community. With iconic roles such as Agent Smith in the Wachowski’s Matrix trilogy, and V in their Alan Moore adaptation of V for Vendetta (…it received a somewhat mixed response – but there is no doubting Weaving’s talent at being able to express emotion whilst wearing a mask), he has also played Elrond in Peter Jackson‘s Lord of the Rings trilogy,  and voiced Megatron in Michael Bay‘s Transformers (which is actually not bad in comparison to the sequels) and finally, he’s played the red-faced power-hungry Nazi Red Skull in the first installment of Captain America: The First Avenger (in which he turned in a great performance). Frank-Grillo-as-Crossbones

Frank Grillo has come along way career wise in such a short space of time. From a partially unknown regular in season one of Fox’s hit show Prison Break to great supporting roles (End of Watch, The Grey, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and leading roles in movies and TV shows (Kingdom, The Purge 2: Anarchy). His name is really starting to get out there and this has been facilitated by his high profile standout performance as Brock Lumlow (Crossbones), which has essentially trajected his career from a tropospheric plateau to the stratospheric. Furthermore, given what we know about the history or Captain America and Crossbones, this speculation does not come as a total surprise. (more…)
