Charlie Hunnam

It was only a couple of months ago when Charlie Hunnam had no idea who the Green Arrow was. He’s said that comics were never part of his early life and, therefore, not part of his future plans. But minds can change quickly, and it seems that Hunnam’s did just that. Almost as fast as he could say no to the role, he had switched gears and had become very open to the idea of playing Oliver Queen. All it took was telling him that he looks just like the guy.

Warner Bros panel at SDCC has been slaying it today. They’ve been a good guy studio releasing trailer after trailer minutes after airing at SDCC (being proactive against leaks). Coming close to the end of their panel, Warner Bros let loose the long awaited trailer for Charlie Hunnam’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Based on the footage below, Hunnam seems to play a more regal version of Jax teller from Sons of Anarchy.  Instead of motorcycles and mayhem, there’s Excalibur and mayhem. (more…)

After the not-quite-blockbuster box-office success of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro’s (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Devil’s Backbone, Cronos) middling foray into big-budget spectacle (Universal recently put a planned sequel on indefinite hold), it was all but inevitable that del Toro would scale back his ambitions, budgetary and otherwise, and return to his horror roots, a return welcomed by del Toro’s relatively small, loyal, vocal fanbase. Return to his roots del Toro indeed does with Crimson Peak, a hyper-stylized Gothic horror-romance/homage that never quite rises to the level of del Toro’s earlier, more accomplished efforts like the aforementioned film trio, but it still offers an abundance of sensory pleasures (albeit less so where narrative ones are concerned) drawn directly from del Toro’s fertile, fervid imagination and his unabashed, love of Gothic horror-romances. Guy Ritchie is taking a crack at one of the most rehashed legends of all time, King Arthur. There are almost as many movies done about King Arthur as there are for Sherlock Holmes. What makes this one different? Ritchie and Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim), who plays King Arthur, tell us why Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur is different, along with the first official images of Hunnam as Arthur. Just look at that picture above.. I do believe I feel the vapors coming over me. (more…)

Crimson Peak 2

There are few movie makers in Hollywood who are capable of weaving an unsettling tale quite like Guillermo del Toro.  From his wonderfully creepy film, The Devil’s Backbone, to his adult fairy tale, Pan’s Labyrinth, to his family thriller Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, the writer/director has made a career of inspiring plenty of people across the globe to sleep with one eye open.  His latest offering, Crimson Peak, has just released a couple of new trailers and, oh man, it appears that del Toro has made yet another movie scary enough to call “horror” and mean it. Crimson Peak has a lot going for it. Guillermo Del Toro directing along with Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam, and Mia Wasikowska in the cast. We all know Del Toro can handle horror and now we’re getting a good look at how he handles Gothic Horror. You know, horror with Victorian high-necked-lacy fashion, prudish sensibilities about sex, and lots of spooky, creepy, ghostly looking things that creep into their bed chambers at night. So check out the trailer and see if Del Toro can scare the pants off you in a non-sexual way using very sexualized imagery. (more…)

escape

While there were a lot of rumors floating around last year about a complete reboot and franchise building trilogy of Snake Plisskin films, that was all just smoke and mirrors. The movie rights were still up in the air and it wasn’t until recently that a clear front-runner emerged. Now the smoke has cleared and the rights to Escape From New York have been scooped up by FOX, but what do they plan to do with them? (more…)
