With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set to kick off another flurry of superhero blockbusters (and possibly be the biggest/best yet if the early word is to be believed,) the films lead dancer/80’s music enthusiast, Chris Pratt, had a few things to say about what the other guys (Warner Bros. and the DC Extended Universe) are doing, and (spoiler) it kinda sounds like he might not be as critical as die hard fans might want him to be.
Yes, while the fan community seems to continue to divide, Star-Lord himself joins his GotG director, James Gunn (and arguably the majority of the movie going public,) in enjoying BOTH DC and Marvel. Pratt gave praise to the DCEU films while speaking with io9, granted he did have one very valid critique about one film in particular. (more…)
Director J.A. Boyona has recently released a new photo teasing the upcoming Jurassic World sequel. Boyona is known for his work on A Monster Calls and The Impossible. Not much is known about the sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World, aside from the fact that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will both be returning. Other cast have signed on, but the only other returning cast member will be BD Wong who plays the (seemingly ageless) lab scientist Henry Wu, also appearing in the original Jurassic Park film. Ever since Iron Man first hit theaters in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been masterfully building their universe in a way that hasn’t been done in film before. Over the past 9 years (and 14 films released over three phases), Marvel has built a literal comic book in cinema that continues to build and grow. Such films have included Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel’s The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, and Doctor Strange. Also, in the pipeline are Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther. All of these movies have been progressing towards and end goal, the battle with Thanos over the Infinity Gems in Avengers: Infinity War and its Untitled Sequel.
Holy Hellicarrier! It looks like Captain America and Nick Fury will face off over Super Bowl LI. Super-Falcons-Fan Samuel L. Jackson popped champagne last night when the Falcons won the NFC Championship game in a decisive 44 to 21 victory over Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. That means Fury vs Psylocke (Olivia Munn) leads us to Captain America (Chris Evans) vs Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in Super Bowl LI. Check out the tweets below. (more…)
One of the most anticipated Phase 3 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the sequel to the surprise breakout 2014 summer hit Guardians of the Galaxy. From one month to the next, the title went from obscure comic to worldwide blockbuster franchise that is giving The Avengers definite competition. Fans can’t wait to see the team, so much so that those who were able to catch what Marvel showed in Hall H during San Diego Comic-Con 2016 are clamoring for it to be released NOW. But with that not being anywhere in sight, we at least take solace in James Gunn dropping little nuggets of info on what to expect for the upcoming film, Chris Pratt adds to the hype train, and Steven Tyler wants in on GOTG 3. Oh lawrd….let’s dive in to this week’s news.
The script for Passengers has been awaiting production for nearly a decade now, having been included on the 2007 Black List, which is Hollywood’s annual ranking of their most admired scripts that haven’t been greenlit. Having been bounced around before finally being picked up by Sony Entertainment in 2014, the film began production in Atlanta in 2015. And now finally, Entertainment Weekly has released a couple of teaser pictures of Passengers staring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. (more…)
The Magnificent Seven (1960) is an iconic western, based on an iconic Japanese samurai film Seven Samurai (1954) by the legendary director Akira Kurosawa. They are joined by a strong supporting cast that includes Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Haley Bennett, and Peter Sarsgaard. That’s not really anything new in the history of The Magnificent Seven, the original was a stacked cast too. Check out this latest trailer that promises plenty of western action, humor, and good times. (more…)
In other news today, it seems that Captain America: Civil War has become the first film this year to make more than $400 million at the domestic box office. That’s no mean feat in a summer supposedly filled with “sequel-itis” and a bold testament to the skill and vision of Marvel Studios, which will be tested again this time next year when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters, aiming to capitalize on the good vibes created by the original in 2014. Meanwhile, somewhere across the sea at Pinewood Studios, GOTG star Chris Pratt has finished his good work, and director James Gunn has paid tribute to him in a new video. (more…)
