— In the first novel, Justin Richards’ DOCTOR WHO: PLAGUE OF THE CYBERMEN (April 2nd, 2013, Broadway, paperback $9.99) the Doctor discovers the residents of a 19th-century village beset by a plague that causes its victims to leave their graves.

— Fans will love to see the Doctor’s newest companion, the mysterious Clara, in Tommy Donbavand’s DOCTOR WHO: SHROUD OF SORROW (April 2nd, 2013, Broadway, paperback $9.99), where the aftermath of JFK’s assassination is the setting for an alien attack.

— In DOCTOR WHO: THE DALEK GENERATION (April 2nd, 2013, Broadway, paperback $9.99), the Doctor finds the Daleks posing as mysterious benefactors for the Sunlight worlds. No one is better to tell this tale of the Doctor’s oldest and fiercest nemesis than the voice actor for the Daleks on the TV show, Nicholas Briggs.

UPDATE: Twitter user @reks611 has won our giveaway. Congrats to him/her and a thank you to all those who participated.

I’m a very casual gamer. I do not have time, or attention for serious play. I get bored, or frustrated and toss games to the way side in favor of something that offers quicker gratification. This, however, was not the case with Dead Space.

I’ve found EA’s acclaimed space-survival-horror franchise (Dead Space 1 & 2) to be immensely entertaining and mildly challenging. They offer amazing graphics work, good story lines, intense kills and a decent amount of scares. Both games are nail biting, ear thumping, nerve freezing experiences. Engrossing, to say the least.

And, now, it’s time for round 3.

Dead Space 3 launched today, and it looks just as thrilling as the first two installments.

For those of you rushing out to get a copy, you may want to hold off, because, here at Nerd Bastards we’re giving away a copy.

What exactly do I need to do to win? Simple!

1. You need to follow Nerd Bastards on Twitter (@NerdBastards)

2. Retweet the following message “RT @NerdBastards For Your Chance to Win a Copy of ‘DEAD SPACE3’ #DS3

The contest is also open to fans who already follow us on Twitter (you just need to RT the message).  Multiple tweets are allowed (No limit, but don’t flood the feed. Play nice and keep it shiny.)

One lucky winner will be randomly chosen on Tuesday 2/12/2013 . The game (system version of your choice) will be mailed out -free of charge- via standard delivery and should be to the lucky lil bastard or bastardette within 1-2 weeks. NOTE: We are not able to ship a physical copy to international winners, but there is a digital copy available.

Got it? Now, what are you waiting for? Start spreading the Nerd Bastards gospel. DO IT NOW!

Here’s a synopsis on the game, followed by a trailer featuring a smooth tune by Phil Collins… because everything %100 better with Phil Collins.

Dead Space 3 brings Isaac Clarke and merciless soldier, John Carver, on a journey across space to discover the source of the Necromorph outbreak. Crash-landed on the frozen planet of Tau Volantis, the pair must comb the harsh environment for raw materials and scavenged parts. Isaac will then put his engineering skills to the ultimate test to create and customize weapons and survival tools. The ice planet holds the key to ending the Necromorph plague forever, but first the team must overcome avalanches, treacherous ice-climbs, and the violent wilderness. Facing deadlier evolved enemies and the brutal elements, the unlikely pair must work together to save mankind from the impending apocalypse.  For more information, and to purchase the game on Xbox 360, PS3 or PC, visit deadspace.com

One show I don’t talk about nearly enough is USA’s Burn Notice.

It is such a cool, stylish show – sort of a Mcgyver meets The Equalizer with some Bond thrown in the mix. It has edge and attitude to burn. Seriously, I’m talking spies, explosions, makeshift tools, and Bruce Campbell!

The unique characters, fast action scenes, and wry, cynical humor are what make it such an outstanding television series. 6 seasons and running!

Titan Books are releasing Firefly: A Celebration, a 544 page full color volume compiling Titan’s three Firefly companions. Presented in a leather-effect binding, this massive collection features all the episode scripts, in-depth interviews, rare photos and new fiction from the writers of the show, along with nine frameable portrait photos of the cast (including rare and unpublished images) and a facsimile of one of the bank notes used in Firefly.

I’ve had this book for about a week now. It’s such a well of content. I started reading it one night, got half way through it and boom… it was morning. Yeah, there’s that much Firefly goodness. I particularly liked reading the scripts and acting out the parts. Mrs. Nerd Bastards was Mal and I was Inara. Don’t ask! Plus,  it looks so pretty on my coffee table. A real conversation starter. Imma miss smelling the pages and stroking the cover.

Psych,  is an American comedy/drama mystery television series, about a man who works for the Santa Barbra Police Department as their resident psychic. The only hitch is that Shawn Spence (James Roday) isn’t really a psychic, he just relies on his highly tuned sense of observation to solve mysteries. With his best friend Burton “Gus” Guster (Dule Hill) and his father Henry (Corbin Bernson) the series has lasted into it’s 6th season, keen senses and all. It’s one of my favorite shows!  It somehow combines youthful thirty-ish banter between buddies with Monk-ish sleuthing. The witty jokes, sharp dialog and endless obscure 80′s references make it a real delight.

So, I have a nerdy giveaway I would love to share with you, surrounding the premier of Psych Season 6.5 on the USA Network, on Leap Day, 2/29. There will be one grand prize winner of a Psych Arcade (pictured below) and the three runner-ups win signed Season 5 Psych DVDs!

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO?

Step 1.

Play the Flash game Squirell Assasins  (Campaign Mode) from February 26th through 28th. It’s a quick, fun game of lawn catapulting invading Squirrel Assassins.

Step 2.

Twitpic your high score to @Nerdbastards.com and #PsychArcade

Step 3.

Check back on Febuary 29th for the winners

Step 4.

Winners will be contacted for mailing information.

In the meantime, be sure to catch up on the past few seasons on Hulu – it’s a fun, light-hearted show that is a hoot to watch!

Bethesda, best known as developers of RPG franchise hits like Fallout and Elder Scrolls, created a very unique challenge to their audience. They promised to award free games (by their company) for life to any child born on the release date of their newest game, Skyrim. To prevent thousands of people getting free shit, they included a very special stipulation: the child must be named “Dovahkiin”, after the game’s protagonist.

Sure, winning free games is nice and all, but is it really worth it to make your child hate you for life? As you can see by the young hatch-ling (above) pinned by video games, some parents sure as hell did. Dovahkiin Tom Kellermeyer was born at 6:08 on 11/11/11, entitling him to a lifetime of free Bethesda games and a lifetime of school yard shame. The kid’s only a week old and he’s already getting embarrassed online by his parents. This is how criminal masterminds start people!

By the way…Skyrim is AWESOME. Here’s an illustration that sums up my week:

30 hours in, 8 red bulls, 6 bags off cool ranch Doritos and a little bit of my soul lost. I think I may need to call a support group.

[UPDATE WE HAVE OUR WINNER] By way of random selection Nerd Bastards has chosen Facebook user Ernest Sandridge as the recipient of the Star Trek Bathrobe. Ernest is one lucky duck! Jealous? Don’t feel too bad, will have more great items to give away in the weeks to come. You’ll get your chance.

In continuation of Nerd Bastards fan appreciation, ThinkGeek.com has given us yet another awesome, nerdy, needful item.

Up this week is a Star Trek science officer bathrobe, so you can explore strange new worlds in fuzzy comfort. Even if you’re not a Vulcan, spending an entire weekend watching Star Trek: The Original Series without one of these comfy bad boys would be…highly illogical.

What exactly do I need to do to win?

There are two things you need to do to win. 1. You need to follow Nerd Bastards on either Twitter (@nerdbastards) or Facebook. 2. You need to tweet or make a wall update  saying “Dammit Jim, I’m a Doctor not a spa manager”.

Contest is applicable to fans who already follow us on Facebook/Twitter (you just need to tweet or make a wall update of the required fore mentioned phrase). Multiple tweets or wall updates are allowed (no limit, but don’t flood the feeds. Play nice.).  1 lucky winner will be randomly chosen (so don’t go trying to bribe us with money or boobs. They are certainly welcomed, they just won’t increase your chances). on Monday 4/11/11. The one size-fits-all robe  will be shipped out (free of charge via standard delivery) within 1-2 weeks.

Got it? Now, what are you waiting for? Start spreading the Nerdbastards/ThinkGeek gospel. DO IT NOW!

If you do not win but still wish to cloth yourself partially, leaving your Vulcan balls/Vajayjay to hang in the wind then you can pick up your own Star Trek science officer robe at thinkgeek.com For $49.99. Captain and Engineer styles available as well.
