Fox’s paranormal show The X-Files has survived 3 presidential administrations and keeps on striving! The show surrounding agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) as they investigated “X-Files” for the FBI has spanned 9 seasons (more than 200 episodes) and two feature length films. The show recently returned for a limited-run 6-eipsode 10th season where it gained some impressive ratings as Mulder and Scully returned to investigate the paranormal. Bottom line, the show still have fans who “want to believe.” It’s almost a no-brainer that the show would once again return for an 11th season.

More ‘X-Files’ In the Works; Just No Idea When

This week, the U.S. TV networks are presenting at the Upfronts, announcing their schedules for next season for TV viewers, but more importantly, TV advertisers. Now, you’d expect that a network would include one of the biggest hits of the season on their new schedule, but in this instance the hit we’re talking about is The X-Files. The return of X-Files was Fox‘s second biggest hit behind Empire this year, yet it was conspicuous by its absent from the schedule for next season (instead Prison Break gets the comeback slot). Don’t be conerned though, says Fox executives. The only think holding up more X-Files is the logistics of its stars and creators.  (more…)

When details started coming out about the return of The X-Files, people heard the title of this week’s episode, “Home Again,” and wondered if it was a sequel to the most notorious X-Files of them all, 1996’s “Home.” Adding fuel to that speculation was the fact that Glen Morgan wrote and directed this episode, he co-wrote the tale of the inbred Peacock family, and surely the fact that the original “Home” is now passe enough to be screened regularly in X-Files reruns threw down the gauntlet for him to come up with sometime even more disturbing. Actually, “Home Again” dealt with subject matter far more upsetting than deformed incestuous rednecks: overwhelming guilt and end of life. (more…)

When Canada’s Space channel recently ran a two day, 20 episode marathon of the Best of The X-Files, six out of the 20 in some way involved Darin Morgan. He either wrote the episode in question (“Humbug”, “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose”, “War of the Coprophages”, “Jose Chung’s ‘From Outer Space'”), or appeared in it (“The Host”, “Small Potatoes”). It might be impossible to understate the influence of Morgan’s work on The X-Files, which is why Files fans were looking forward to this week’s entry, which marked Morgan’s return to the show for the first times since “Small Potatoes” in season four, and the first time he’s but his stamp on a script since “Jose Chung” in season three. It was like he never left.  (more…)

Get ready to celebrate The X-Files like it’s 1995! There’s tremendous excitement over the short, six-episode revival of the show set to premiere on Fox in January, and there’s been no shortage of coverage on this site and others about all the ins and outs and expectations of those half-dozen episodes. Now there’s this: might this X-Files miniseries be a beachhead meant to launch something more ongoing? Like an all-new X-Files ongoing series starring two of the new characters being introduced in the Mulder and Scully-centric limited series? Seems like perfect synergy, but don’t but your money on a new X-Files dynasty just yet. (more…)

New ‘X-Files’ Promo Has Monsters in It

the_x-files_2016_trailer

It’s just a few short months now till we see The X-Files return to TV screens weekly, even if it’s just for five short weeks. (The first and second episode air one day after the other, so six episodes in five weeks. Don’t question my math!) A new promo has been posted online, and unlike the previous commercials, the emphasis here seems to be on the monster-of-the-week stories coming up on the miniseries continuation of the show debuting early next year. Apropos, this new trailer, in Scully’s words, “has a monster in it.” Or make that a brief look at a couple of different monsters. (more…)

The X-Files are coming back to Fox later this season, so you can expect posts like this over the next couple of months as we get these little teases, and while this isn’t the first, this is your first substantive look at what’s in store for the new, further adventures of Mulder and Scully. So does that mean you get some insight into the plot here? Of course not, don’t be ridiculous. What it does establish though is that it may have been 12 years since the last time Mulder and Scully peered into the X-Files, but that doesn’t mean they’ve lost the suspicion or paranoia. (more…)

When X-Files was released in 1995, I was just a wee lad of 10 years old. I was still governed by the tyranny of a bed time and the expectations that I be able to wake up and function in the morning for school. My folks understandably followed this childhood rule quite rigidly, with one very notable exception: I was allowed to stay up and watch The X-Files, my absolute favorite show at the time. It was the perfect blend of mystery horror, still 2 of my favorite entertainment genres, and had the ever lovely Gillian Anderson on its side. It was the perfect show. Now, by way of some miracle, we’ll get to spend more time in that amazing world. The best news, though, is that we got our hands on a nice little teaser to share with all of you fine nerds. Are you ready?  (more…)

The Truth is out there. Or rather it was sneaked into a commercial break on last night’s episode of Wayward Pines. Fox gave fans a special sneak peak at next year’s X-Files relaunch during the penultimate episode of Pines Thursday night, a show that obviously owes a lot to The X-Files‘ and its intriguing blend of the macabre and the bizarre. So apropos then that it should be through the M. Night Shyamalan series that we get a – sigh – full 15 seconds of X-Files preview. So that’s not much, but it’s enough to tide us over, and I’ll admit that it’s also a very tantalizing 15 seconds. Wanna check it out? (more…)
