When she’s not breaking up with Hollywood heartthrobs and writing songs about it, Taylor Swift is actually a pretty fun chick, and maybe even a tad nerdy as well. The world renowned songstress was spotted wearing a Deadpool costume for Halloween. Not just any Deadpool costume. Like, she literally wore Deadpool’s costume – as in Ryan Reynold‘s actual costume from the movie. (more…)
Earlier this month, it was revealed that the director of Deadpool, Tim Miller, would not be returning to the sequel. This was due to creative differences not with the studio but with Deadpool start Ryan Reynolds. The two were apparently at odds over how big and stylized they wanted to go with the sequel, with Ryan Reynolds wanting to keep things smaller and kitschy, and Miller wanting to go far grander. The split was amicable. Ryan Reynolds and FOX are fine in finding a replacement director – Deadpool 2 will carry on. It is Tim Miller, however, who’s career trajectory is far more interesting to watch out for. Here’s a middle-aged guy who, prior to Deadpool, was known solely for directing video game trailers. Tim’s directing projects include Warner Bros. Batman: Arkham City, Sony’s DC Universe Online, and Dante’s Inferno. He made his first motion picture debut with Deadpool. And as history goes, it became the highest grossing Rated R movie of all time. He proved himself and then some. He’s earned the right to make whatever the hell he wants and be given an almost blank check.
So what does Tim Miller want to do, what’s next on his list? Well, Sonic The Hedgehog, of course! (more…)
As many of you already know, director Tim Miller abruptly stepped down from directing the Deadpool 2 movie several days ago. However, no one really knew why he did, especially considering the success of the first film. And now reports are coming out as what really happened. As it turns out, the tipping point eventually came over the decision as to who would play Cable. In short, Miller was in favor of Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), but Ryan Reynolds wanted to go another route, although there are no specifics as to who he wanted to play the role.
There was a time when FOX never wanted to bring Marvel’s Merc with The Mouth to the big screen. After sitting on the shelf for a few years, some “leaked” test footage of a CGI Deadpool voiced by Ryan Reynolds beating up some dudes in a car, made its way to onto the web. The Internet, as Legend would have it, went nuts for it. Thusly, forcing the Studio to say “Alright, we don’t understand it, but give these guys some money and let’s get this movie made”. A year or so later, Deadpool: The Movie hit cineplexes and delighted audiences with its quick-witted humor, charming romance, and sweet ass action scenes. Deadpool exceeded the Studios expectations, netting $500-mill in its first 2 weeks, a massive amount of money given it only cost a mere $58-mil to make. Deadpool went onto the earn the coveted spot as the “Highest Grossing Rated-R Movie Of All Time”. All this, thanks to the vision and perseverance of star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller, both of whom, spent years campaigning and downright harassing the studio in an attempt to get this movie made. They delivered, big time! Now, of course, the Studio and the film’s talent are sitting on a big pile a money, with everyone now in a rush to get a sequel made.
However, there is trouble brewing. Deadpool 2 has lost a key player/supporter… they’re without a director. Oh, noes! (more…)
In the post-credits scene from Deadpool, they did a great callback to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off where Deadpool tells the audience “it’s over, go home.” During the scene, he comments on how some marvel films give a post-credits reveal, but Deadpool’s not that kind of movie. Of course he then completely reneges and says that there will be a sequel, and Cable will be in it. Comic book fans love the time-traveling mutant son of Cyclops and Jean Grey clone Madelyne Pryor who helped turn the New Mutants into the elite fighting force, X-Force. One member of X-Force who Cable has had a long history with is Domino.
Our story yesterday about Twentieth Century Fox and the filmmaking team behind Deadpool 2 coming to loggerheads about the casting of Cable might be causing some cause for concern. Deadpool was the perfect storm when it was released this past February: Fox was looking to diversify the X-Men universe, fans were pushing for it following the leak of the test footage, and the original creative was ready and willing to make it happen immediately. The case of Deadpool 2 might be a bit more complicated though. Fox knows now there’s lots of money in Deadpool, and they will do anything, even unintentionally screw it all up, to make more. But Deadpool’s creator says trust the process. (more…)
Deadpool was not only a great, incredibly fun flick that finally vindicated poor Ryan Reynolds in a superhero movie after the disasters that were Blade: Trinity, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Green Lantern, it also shattered records for an R-rated release, causing Hollywood to rethink its strategy regarding the content of blockbusters. The man largely credited with this success is the director of the film, Tim Miller, who was able to deftly balance brutal violence with meta humor, while still managing to make the mostly despicable characters sympathetic. Now, some are beginning to worry that Fox Studios may be falling into that old Hollywood trap of unnecessary studio interference of a high-stakes project as the studio and Miller reportedly disagree on the casting of beloved comic book character Cable.
The Merc with the Mouth has been a little quiet lately, as the behind the scenes production ramps up towards shooting Deadpool 2 in early 2017. The first big superhero hit this year has continued to shine during the DVD and Blu/Ray sales phase raking up another $56 million putting the fourth wall breaking Merc into the $800 million range. Producer Simon Kinberg recently talked with /Film and had an update on what the Merc with the Mouth might target when he breaks the fourth wall in the sequel. (more…)
Deadpool stands as one of the year’s biggest movie success stories, not only did it make hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide, but it was made for relative pennies as compared to other superhero films released in 2016. As fans at cons have noted, there has been an appropriate uptick in the number of Deadpools you see walking around the con floor – not that they were amiss before the movie was released. But what what about real life? You encounter many Deadpools while out at Target? Or Taco Bell? Well, if you live in Houston, you might. There’s presently a man there not only dressed like Deadpool, but his name is now legally Deadpool. (more…)
While Deadpool was a great film, there was one hanging chad that kept people up at night, tossing and turning, wondering what happened to Dopinder’s cousin. Remember Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) recommended killing Dopinder’s cousin when he first met Dopinder and later found out Dopinder had stashed his cousin in the truck of the taxi the second meeting, but we never really got full closure on what happened next. Now, thanks to A. Todd Smith and company, we know that Dopinder’s cousin finally got out of the trunk and face to face with the man behind Dopinder’s truck stuffing ideas. (more…)
