Looks like people may still love Joss Whedon and The Avengers, but until the Marvel feature releases on DVD and Blu-ray on September 25th, another Marvel hero has taken the number one spot in our nerdy hearts. In the six days since its release North American release, Marc Webb and The Amazing Spider-Manhave earned an “amazing” $141 million, bringing its global total to $341.2 million!
Opening with a solid $7.5 million from midnight screenings, the feature has since added to its astounding $200 million in the overseas markets. This is a great start for a movie that’s only a few years removed from the last time people saw the red and blue spandex on film. In nearly a week, The Amazing Spider-Man has earned more than the budget of the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man and that’s not bad for something that originally had a huge backlash over certain aspects of the reboot – i.e.: mechanical web-shooters.
Webb stayed faithful to the source material and stayed away from emo haircuts and cheesy dance scenes and created a suitable beginning to a new trilogy. And until Chris Nolan and The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th, it may be safe to say that for the next few weeks the theaters belong to our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.

Hollywood marketeers seem to have entered a state of irrational frenzy overlapped with a fear of having the movie “John Carter-ed.” That’s where a movie’s marketing kills any chance that the movie might make money. The Spider-Man marketeers have drunk that cool-aid, just look at the amount of images, clips, interviews, and other assorted marketing attempts made on this movies behalf.
This is Spider-Man for heaven’s sake. It will make money, people will go to see it. Parents will drag their children to see it. The only way you can screw that up is to OVER SATURATE the market with countless repetitious clips that soon wear thin on the movie going public.
Relax, chill out, calm down.

“Hollywood, Hollywood, can’t stop showing clips galore, spoil the plot, then some more, look out…look out for Marketeers!!!” In case you’re wondering, yes… that was a riff on the 1960’s Spider-Man theme. Crafty, aren’t I? Anyway, here we are again with another round of clips from The Amazing Spider-Man.
First up, we got a clip featuring Andrew Garfield‘s Peter Parker telling Denis Leary‘s Captain Stacy about how the alligator in the sewer (aka The Lizard) is really Dr. Connors. Leary responds with an appropriate “Do I LOOK like the Mayor of Tokyo to you?” [via MetaCafe ]

Lionsgate has released a third TV spot for The Expendables 2. Much like the first two spots, you can expect explosions and geriatric acting.
In the August 17 release, Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Toll Road ()Randy Couture and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job.
With almost a month left until Marc Webb rendition of The Amazing Spider-Man, we all know what time it is: re-cut movie trailer time! Actually, while we get the same re-cut footage, our friends to the balmy south (AKA the Australians) get a previously-released trailer but with a dash of some never-before-seen clips.

Yea, yea, we’re all hyped to see The Avengers (hitting theaters May 4th), but there are other super hero movies to look forward to. Namely, The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man. The latter of which is probably the least anticipated. This is not to say nobody is interested, but just about every film pales in comparison to The Avengers and The Dark Knight. Plus, most folks are still feeling a bit uncomfortable with the whole reboot thing. Especially when the last SM film was just a few years ago.
However, Sony Pictures, with director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) are trying desperately hard to give us a Spider-Man we can believe in again. The recent trailers have shown us a darker, edgier Spider-Man…and a blonde Emma Stone. If anything, we can be thankful for the latter. Emma Stone is so HOT!
Anyhow, Sony Pictures has revealed a new international trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, which features more footage and some nifty Japanese subtitles.
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker ( Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
The Amazing Spider-man has some interesting product tie-in marketing from Kellogg where one collects points for prizes and also see movie content by using a Kellogg’s phone app. You download the app and scan the back of Kellogg’s products to see clips of the movie . . .

Briefly: The first real teaser poster for Marc Webb‘s new The Amazing Spider-Man has arrived, and it is a pretty artsy fartsy. It’s all grey, bleak and shadowy. Nothing vibrant; no SM blue and reds which you might expect. Good poster. Weird tagline though. Untold story? What untold story? Don’t they mean the retold story? I think most everyone knows the origin of Spider-Man, do you suppose their spinning an original take on an already existing franchise?
Yesterday we showed you our first look at The Amazing Spider-man with the first teaser trailer, and it was awesome. Way better than I think a lot of fans were expecting. Today we’ve got a really nice shot of the official poster. Or at least, the first official poster, I’m sure come the premiere there will be dozens.

You know it’s Comic-Con week, don’t you? Can’t you just smell it in the air? Well, not literally, ’cause if you really could smell it you’d probably gag from the overwhelming body odor, but what I’m trying to say is, it’s Comic-Con week and finally we get a peak at those movies we’ve been anxiously anticipating for months. Today, it’s our first look at Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-manstarring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Denis Leary. I’m still scratching my head as to why it was necessary to reboot the Spider-man franchise so quickly. Granted, everyone agrees what was shaping into a fantastic series ended on really shitty note. Spider-man 3 was fuckin’ awful. But even so, there’s only five years between these films, Toby Maguire’s awkward Peter Parker is still fresh in fan’s minds. Are we ready to relive the origin of everyone’s favorite, wise-cracking web-slinger?

Now let me ask you, are you freakin’ excited to relive the origin of everyone’s favorite, wise-cracking web-slinger? Yes should be your answer, dammit, an astounding yes! I’ll admit I’m completely enamored by the fancy, spider-parkour vision. I know it’s gimmicky and clearly made to showcase the 3D, but I don’t care, it looks sweet. Everything about this flick looks edgy, and at times a little on the grittier side. I’m hoping they haven’t lost the fun and humor of Spider-man, but this is only a teaser and I’m guessing they wanted something intense and thrilling for our first look.
