11 Biggest Nerd Gatherings in the World

For the majority of the year, the most serious nerds among us are shut away in dark rooms or basements in front of computer screens and games of Dungeons and Dragons. But every once in a while, the mothership seems to call them all home, at least for the length of a convention or other kind of meet-up. You’ll see Star Wars characters and gamers in a trance, flocking to event sites. Now, we’re not going to delve into the differences between geek and nerd culture. If you want to argue about it, we can probably assume that you fall into one of those two categories and will find a gathering you’ll love below.

Kate Mulgrew – Thinks a Star Trek Voyager Movie Would be a Good Idea

Daily Dragon , the daily Dragon Con news and update site recently asked Kate the following:

DD: When you did your Captains interview with William Shatner, what did you take away from that experience? Any new thoughts on Star Trek or your performance as Captain Janeway?

KM: My greatest thought was that we really must break the glass ceiling here in Star Trek. It’s not enough that I was the first female captain. There needs to be a continual push to open the door for women in positions of authority. In an absolutely equal way, of course. In talking to Bill I thought: This has been very much a boy’s club for a long, long time. I had the privilege and honor to be the first female, but that’s an establishment that needs now to be developed.

DD: With the reboot happening in movies, do you have any insights on what’s down the line with Star Trek? Do you think we’ll see characters from Voyager and the other next gen shows but with different backgrounds?

KM: They’ve worked long and hard for the past few years on the prequel notion. But I think they should go on and develop what happens to the characters after Voyager landed. In a movie.

Kate Mulgrew has been struck with the latest case of space dementia and has “Let’s make a Voyager Movie” fever. There’s no cure for this career debilitating virus, only isolation and a permanent seat on the convention circuit between Lou Ferrigno and that guy from Ghostbusters.

Wow, that came off pretty harsh didn’t it?

This NerdBastard liked Voyager, (Hey that rock hurt!) so it surprised me when the above statements poured out when starting this article. Really though, what was not answered in the Voyager series that was not answered by the series itself and the following books in the series?

Voyager got home, story over, commence happy ending.

There have been some other harsh comments left on *Cough-Cough* Internet sites about her weight and acting skills. I always thought she did a great job as the first Female Captain of a Star Trek series. That was an important milestone. If she came off as wooden in the first couple of seasons I saw that as her character slowly adapting to her new role as Captain, but a Voyager movie?

Don’t think so.

After the successful Abrams Star Trek Reboot why go backwards? Is there any reason Kate couldn’t play an ancestor in the Janeway family tree. Captain Janeway came from a long line of Star Fleet officers if this NerdBastards memory is not turning to jello with age. Kirk trying to use his sexy gaze while butting heads with an Great-Great-Grandmother Admiral Janeway would be fun.

What this NerdBastard would really like to see in the next movie is another female starship captain. There were twelve of those beautiful Constellation Class ships in the fleet. Have Kirk and the new female captain knock heads during a mission. Lots of sexual tension, posturing, maybe even some past one night stand romance between the two, cadet and captain? Oh the Fan fiction is starting brew.

Midichlorians: The STD

midichlorians_pvp

There was a time where I related The Curse of Midichlorians destroying the ideology of of what it meant to be a real Jedi into a Jedi getting an STD. He was just a normal Jedi, until some dirty hooker gave him Midichlorians. I mean come on! This argument started in 1999 and will never end. There was NO reason to add that into the mix, it was like saying Hiel Hitler! In all the original Star Wars films, Han Solo, Mon Mothma , they all said “May the Force be with you” as a form of “Take it easy”.

Then Qui Gon Jinn took a sample from Annakin like checking his blood sugar, or cholesterol, and totally disregarding Obi Wan’s speech in A New Hope .

The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.

I call Midichlorians shenanigan BULLSHIT !! And this video proves that other people share my feelings with A herpes/Not so fresh commercials, selling a product for those Sith flareups VaderEX

Sexy Cosplay of The Week: The Mammory Merrits of Lindze Merrit

i306326561_39596_4

(Every friday, here at nerdbastards, you can come to find the sexy side of nerd pop culture in a little weekly feature we call “Sexy Cosplay of The Week”. Cosplay is a known term in the nerd-verse when fans dress up as their favorite characters from pop culture, either from movies, comics, TV, gaming and so on. A lot of times it’s quite sexy and what we do is find the sexy and bring it to you, you’re welcome.)

Large breasts are great (Am I right?). Especially when they fill out costumes that are faithful to the voluptuious vixens of pop culture.

Having a natural build of a comic book/video game babe (*ahem* large breasts) Lindze Merrit is well known in the cosplay community. Heck, search any cosplay message board and your bound to come across this ample chested chick. Most know Lindze’s body……..of work (haha see what I did there) for her uncanny embodiment of the scantily clad succubus, Morrigan Aensland from Darkstalkers. Her titallating personification of Morrigan might very well be cause for the character being synonymous with cosplay (feel free to debate about that). Though, her portrayal of the Darkstalkers Fem Fatal is enough to get you through many cold, lonely nights, Lindze has slipped into other, equally pleasing, tight, form fitting attire. The Baroness from G.I. Joe. Abby Chase from Danger Girl. Scarab from David Mack’s Kabuki. She’s even gone manga as The Native Catgirl (not enough girls in cat suits if you ask me). Her contributions to the cosplay community are a plenty and while many cheer her astonishing realizations we will forever salute her for makin it sexy. ;-)

Lindze has stopped being an active cosplayer to raise a family and run her  business of selling cute, Otaku hats (genkihats.com) but she does don an outfit once a year at Dragon Con. If you meet this luscious lass keep your genitals in your pants and give her a slightly uncomfortable, nod of appreciation.

A collection of Lindze’s best Cosplay after the jump.
