One of the biggest selling points of Deadpool was the way it was sold. The various facets of the film’s marketing plan, including a lot of participation from star Ryan Reynolds, that sent a message far and wide that this was not going to be your average superhero movie, and the audience fell for it to the tune of over three-quarters of a million dollars worldwide so far. So it should come as no surprise that the home video release of Deadpool should be equally tongue-in-cheek. The special features that will accompany the DVD and Blu-ray of Deadpool have been announced, and while they’re pretty standard, the annotated version of the poster is not. (more…)

Is nothing sacred? Of course, the answer is ‘No.’ At the same time though, one would think that if there was such a thing as “sacred” in the movie business, it would be Star Wars, and you would be wrong because a couple of weeks in advanced of The Force Awakens’ DVD and Blu-ray release, some hooked-handed, peg-legged person has uploaded a DVD quality version of the film to pirate sites. As you’re well aware, the internet is forever, which means that if you want a high quality version of the film, you can probably find it with a minimum of effort.  (more…)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey

The South-by-Southwest Film Festival is currently in full swing, and the lineup of events, panels, and screenings for the week-long celebration of movies is impressive, to say the least.  Recently, the festival hosted some of the top behind-the-scenes brass from Star Wars: The Force Awakens to chat about the making of the film in advance of the movie’s home-video release. ‘Flash’ News: DVD Specs and Joe Gets a New Partner

Season-Two-The-Flash

So you’re partner shot himself to prevent his evil descendent from being born and coming back in time to kill all your friends… Just another day in the Central City Police Department (and another Tuesday night on The Flash). So with the, uh, departure of Detective Eddie Thawne (and the actor who played him Rick Cosnett), there’s a hole in the roster of the CCPD. Detective Joe West is going to need a new partner in order to keep all those meta-human criminals in check. A leak has given a hint at just who that new detective might be, and at the same time, Warner Bros. has released the cover art and technical specs for the first season of the show when it comes out on DVD and Blu-ray later this year. The other day, Disney floated the idea that sometime soon the original versions of the original Star Wars trilogy might be released, unmolested by special edition tinkering, would be issued in the high-def Blu-ray format. Now fans are not often known for their patience, and considering that George Lucas spent years saying that those first cuts of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are gone, and that they weren’t coming back, it should come as no surprise that many weren’t holding their breath for Lucas to change his mind. So one group of techie savvy and dedicated fans said “F**k It! We’ll do our own original version release! With Black Jack! And hookers! (Okay, maybe not those last two.)

If you’re coming down from the high of Guardians of the Galaxy, but are looking for new Marvel Studios something, then here you go. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will arrive on home video in just over a month, and if you want a reason aside from the obvious to buy the disc when it comes out, maybe the following videos will sweeten the deal. Now like a lot of deleted scenes, we’re not shown anything substantive or necessary to the story, but they do also offer some insight into how the film shook out in the editing room. Plus, we’re all completest obsessive compulsive types here, am I right? (more…)

2014 has been kind of a dud for cinema as a whole, but one movie I definitely would place in my Top 10 (were the year ending tomorrow) is Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Brimming with great performances and kick-ass action set pieces, The Winter Solider delivered everything I wanted in a comic book film. Now details on the blu-ray have been finally released and it looks like this disc (just like most other Marvel home video releases) is jam-packed with awesome sounding bonus features. (more…)

And no, I don’t mean Thor the film (though it was for that movie), I’m talking about Thor the character. Yes, before Tom Hiddleston was considered for the role of the trickster god, Loki, he auditioned for the god of thunder himself. His original screen test will be a bonus feature on the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of Thor: The Dark World, coming February 25th, but you can get a tease of it in GIF form below. (more…)
