Evan Rachel Wood

Ford (Anthony Hopkins) muses when addressing Maeve that “mankind is poised midway between the gods and the beasts” in this penultimate episode of the season.  The embodiment of that statement is William (Ed Harris) who gets the bulk of the screen time in this episode that, ironically on father’s day, spent time showing how bad a father William was to Emily.

We finally get a better look at his world outside the park that helped to make his character so interesting.  We see his wife, Juliet (Sela Ward) and daughter Emily (Katja Herbers) when they were still a family but were beginning to unravel.  We also get hints and revelations about what has really been going on in the park.

As per usual, SPOILERS!!!!

“You only live as long as the last person who remembers you,” Akecheta, played by Fargo alum Zahn McClarnon, tells Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) at the midpoint of episode four. Sounds like wise words and that advice received some clarification in this episode: “Kiksuya,” directed by Uta Briesewitz.

The title of this week’s episode translates from the Lakota language as “remember.”  The episode is almost exclusively the story of the Lakota tribe in Westworld and specifically Akecheta.

Here is a recap and as usual SPOILERS abound!!!

The title of this week’s episode is Les Écorchés.  It translates from the French to mean “a painting or sculpture of a human figure with the skin exposed to display the musculature.”  In this case, it seems to refer to the reveal of the purpose of the park and the creation of Bernard.  This episode could have been called “In Memoriam” and it would have been just as appropriate.

Here is a quick recap filled with SPOILERS!!!!

Westworld Season 1, Episode 3 Air Date 10/23/16 Pictured: Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Robert Ford

Back in 1973 (a year some of our readers may even be old enough to remember), there was a movie by the name of Westworld that was destined to become a cult classic. Now, some 40+ years later, Hollywood has finally decided it’s time for another crack at it. The marketing has been hitting the Internets for weeks thus far and now, shortly before the release is scheduled, HBO is sending us yet another look at their creation. Scroll on to check out the newest Westworld trailer, ‘Dreams’. (more…)

Most fans of True Detective have decided that season two was a bust, which adds fuel to the narrative that aside from Veep and Silicon Valley HBO isn’t having a very good year. Ah well, there’s always next year, and it seems like HBO is thinking the same way. Before last night’s True Detective finale, HBO ran the first trailer for Westworld, its highly ambitious made-for-TV remake of the robots-run-amok-in-an-Old-West-theme park novel and movie by Michael Chrichton. From a team that includes Jonathan Nolan and J.J. Abrams, and starring actors like Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood and Ed Harris, you better believe that expectations for Westworld will be huge. Will this 30 seconds throw fuel on that hype? (more…)

First Look at Jonathan Nolan’s ‘Westworld’ for HBO

westworld-hbo-ed-harris

Jonathan Nolan may be better known for penning screenplays like The Dark Knight, The Prestige and Interstellar, but he’s been doing damn fine work on TV too as the creator and showrunner for Person of Interest. A series monstrously overlooked, likely because it’s on CBS (where the dishonored go when they die), POI deal serious with issues involving privacy, the surveillance state and artificial intelligence in ways that big screen movies like Transcendence and Chappie only wish they could. Well, Nolan’s getting a broader pallet to explore these issues in a new series called Westworld for HBO. The show’s been delayed until 2016, but San Diego Comic Con gave us a good, long initial look at the show. (more…)

Westworld

When word broke last year that J.J Abrams’ Bad Robot had teamed up with Jonah Nolan to bring the 70’s classic Sci-fi movie Westworld to HBO as a television series, I was excited, but also concerned about how seriously those in charge would take the production. Would it be a campy look-back and laugh, or would it be too serious, just another gritty reboot? Now that word has leaked that none other than acting heavy wieght Sir Anthony Hopkins will have a starring role in the series, my concerns are beginning to dwindle.  (more…)

True Blood Update “SPOILER” Hilarious!

Evan Rachel Wood’s cameo on True Blood a Vampire Queen was a very tongue in cheek look at vampire life. She has a sun room like the beach, a row of girls and men to taste sample from, and an entourage. In exchange for information, Bill has to hang out with her in order to save the day………And she makes him play YAHTZEE with her! A vampire Queens delight. It really was a goofy scene, but was intended to be so.
