Ewoks

ewoks

Yub Nub! Who doesn’t love that delightfully nonsensical turn of phrase? It’s what rang out the original Star Wars trilogy as the Rebel Alliance partied with an army of lethal teddy bears called Ewoks over their combined defeat of the Galactic Empire. But hey, what happened to the Ewoks after the credits rolled? We know that the galaxy moved on to the First Order and the Resistance, and the rise and fall of the new Jedi, but what about those cutesy little creatures? Were they just left on Endor with all that abandoned and destroyed technology to keep eating berries and building tree forts? (more…)

Return-of-the-Jedi-Ewoks

With a little less than two weeks to go before the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the promotion for the film has gone into, ahem, hyperdrive. Even though there’s about 11 more sleeps till most people’s first chance to see the film, fans will be speculating till the curtain lifts as to what, or what not, has been included in the film. Today, we have some insight into the latter. Culled from a press event over the weekend, we can say definitively a couple of things about The Force Awakens: it’s got no Ewoks, no Jar Jar Binks, and no post-credits sequences. At least one of those is sort of disappointing. (more…)

Wars 4

Fans of the Star Wars universe, i.e. everyone on the planet, have been absolutely rabid for any information relating to the new universe that Disney is building around the one of the greatest space dramas ever created.  We all know that a new trilogy is happening, with J.J. Abrams at the director wheel for the first movie, and that there are several spinoff movies planned, but other than that, the Mouse House has pretty much kept things quiet on the Star Wars front.  Well, Star Wars fans, get ready to get excited because today, we finally have some news on the revitalized franchise, including the title of the first new Wars spinoff film.  That title, by the way, is Rogue One. Warwick Davis has a wonderful attitude about himself and the world around him. His show Life’s too Short is a wonderful look at how he tweaks his own nose about his life. His appearance on An Idiot Abroad is another fine example. When the news broke last year that J.J. Abrams would be directing Star Wars VII everyone who was ever in a Star Wars movie was bombarded with questions, were they going to be in it, did they know what the movie would be about, had they talked with J.J.? Well know we know that Warwick has indeed talked with J.J. and he decided to let us know what happened with this little video. (more…)

Remember the scene above from Return Of The Jedi? Where Princess Leia wins the undying friendship and loyalty of the Ewok Wicket by sharing a….I think it’s a rice cake, but no doubt bigger Nerds than me know exactly what foodstuff brokered the eventual military alliance between the Ewoks and the Rebellion.

Anyhoo, Star Wars fans in Germany at Celebration 2 were treated to a live performance of the classic scene courtesy of the very actors who brought us the original: Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa, and Warwick Davis as Wicket W. Warrick.

Check out the immensely entertaining video below….though to be perfectly honest, when I heard Carrie Fisher was re-enacting a classic scene from ROTJ, something else came to mind 😉

ABOVE: While preparing today’s column, I had a thought: “What if I went into Etsy’s ‘Geekery’ category and sorted by ‘highest price?’ The answer is this stained glass Iron Man panel. It will set you back $3,500 with 10% of that going to charity. It’s certainly not in my budget, but it’s rather awesome to look at.
