Cutest Serenity Figures EVER!

River

I love Firefly. I love Serenity. I love all the characters that Joss Whedon created in that universe, and I wish that show could have continued on … but that’s a story for another post.

I am here to talk about some figurines so cute that I may have to get a grin-ectomy for smiling so much when I see them. These figurines are just asking to be bought and looked at whenever you, or another Browncoat (what fans of the show and/or movie call themselves) needs cheering up.

The newest additions to Quantum Mechanix’s “Little Damn Heroes” line of Serenity maquettes have been revealed in time for SDCC – River Tam and Wash. This is in addition to the already made Kaylee, Mal and Jayne.

I cannot find when the River and Wash figurines become available for pre-order, but they will most likely be displayed on the Quantum Mechanix website.

Pictures of all the maquettes can be found below the jump. Seriously, how CUTE are they?

Joss Whedon and Firefly Crew Together… For Something

ff

One of the things I hate most about being a nerd, besides being socially awkward among females, is dealing with the naive-ness of other nerds. A photo. An off handed comment or any other bit of loose information and good lord do nerds come up with some ridiculous speculations and theories. Which then, of course trickles down the nerd intelligence scale and we have lower species of nerds telling other nerds news that isn’t true. It’s a vicious, eye twitching cycle that most stop.  Honestly, it’s my job as a blogger to report rumors as there may be a bit of truth to them But, y’all would save me a lot of work if you just calmed the hell down and contained yourselves.

What am I getting at? Well, Nathan Fillion tweeted a photo yesterday that tickled the collective taint of the nerd world. It showed Joss Whedon, Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk, and himself posed in what appears to be a forest. Does it mean a new Firefly project (*gasps)? A precursor to the next installment of Dr. Horrible? Or could they be filming cameos in Whedon’s ‘The Cabin in the woods‘? These are the questions Whedon fans have been posing. Honestly nerds? I expected more from you than this. (*takes a deep breath) Fillion is under contract with ABC, and isn’t likely to have any projects cooking with another network. Whedon is re-working Marvel’s film adaptation of The Avengers script and will be in the director chair soon. Tudyk is filming a bit part in Transformers 3. Not to mention his character in Firefly is dead. And, Adam Baldwin? Well, he’s just busy being Adam Baldwin. Point is the ex-serenity crew are all too caught up in other things to be doing anything together big or small screen related.  What were they doing then? I know it’s hard to beileve, but what we have here is four guys hanging out at a Fillion hosted party. Ex Buffy and Angel star Juliet Landau (Drusilla) confirmed this with the following tweet: “Just left party! Was so fun to hang out with @NathanFillion, Joss, Kai, Adam, Eliza and a whole bunch of new folks”. So nerds, there you have it. Four friends hanging out. It happens.

Now, will someone please tell me what the hell is going on with Nathan Fillions crotch? Is that a sparkler or did his penis just create a new galaxy?

Would An ’80s Style Opening Credits Have Helped Firefly Stay On The Air?

Picture 3-thumb-498x280-42525

Take my love, take my land. Take me where I cannot stand. I don’t care, I’m still free. You can’t take the sky from me.…”

Now, we all love the title sequence to Joss Whedon’s beloved, but incredible short lived space western Firefly (sweetest title song I’ve ever heard), but lets face it. It didn’t quite sell the show (to anyone other than Whedon fanboys).

How could it have been better? Well, the incredibly crafty bastards at io9.com made the opening credits to Firefly to look like the show had been made in the 1980s, complete with 2D black computer graphing and freeze-frames as each actor appears. And, a synth-hapyy, guitar-solo for good measure.

Truer to the plot? Perhaps not , but to qoute io9 “Look at it this way… Street Hawk had 13 episodes aired before it was canned. That’s two more than Firefly!!! Is it a better show? God no, it’s terrible! But man, what opening credits“.

Wash to Get One-Shot from Patton Oswalt

Admit it. When that harpoon speared Wash in the latter third of Joss Whedon’s Serenity, you felt like your own heart was being staked, didn’t you? Thanks to an upcoming one-shot from comic and actor Patton Oswalt, you’ll soon get a chance to honor Wash’s memory and learn more about him. (more…)

If You Must Wed, At Least Be Nerdlywed

spidermanwedding

Weddings – who needs ‘em? You sit around eating cheap chicken dinners while feeling sorry for the douchebags who are begging the DJ to play the “Electric Slide” yet again. And if it’s your wedding, then you should feel kind of bad for subjecting people to that junk just because it’s “your special day.”

That is, unless you do it up right. Unless you do it up nerdy. Unless you get out your lightsaber to slice apart that dead tauntaun cake. Below, check out three photos of folks who geeked out their ball-and-chain affairs… and one cake that will make you roll your eyes. (more…)

Nerd Deal: Firefly The Complete Series On Sale For $12.99

show-cancelled-firefly-dvd-278x350

There is no reason to not pick Firefly: The complete series from bestbuy.com for the “shiny” low cost of $12.99. Unless of course you already have it, then there really is no reason to buy what you already own. However, for 13 bucks just go ahead and buy it and give it to one of your “I hate Joss Whedon” friends. Perhaps they will feel obligated to watch it because it was a gift. Perhaps if they actually watch the whole series, for once they will find the word of Mal Reynolds to be as good as the word of god. Please help support Firefly, spread the gospel!

Dollhouse Casting: More Buffy/Angel Crew, Plus Battlestar Galactica

 AlexisDenisof_meins

Former Buffy/Angel star Alyson Hannigan tweeted that her husband, Buffy co-star Alexis Denisof, “is shooting his first day of Dollhouse right now!” That makes Denisof the latest member of the Joss Whedon troupe who will make an appearance in the second season of the Fox series, joining Firefly’s Summer Glau.
Slashfilm  reports that Jamie Bamber, who played Lee Adama in BSG, will be showing up as a character “heavily involved” in an engagement. Michael Hogan (Col. Tigh)  will be appearing in the second episode of the season.

Serenity- The Big Dam Replica

504x_serenity-wallpaper

We have no idea how much this model replica of the Serenity ship from Firefly is but boy is it shiny. The 19 inch replica is a product of Quantum Mechanix which is the same company that brought us the $900 Cylon Raider from BSG. So we can only imagine this bad boy, with all its bell and whistles has got to be close to double that. Pricing aside this is a testament to true craftsmanship.

More than three years in the making, Serenity – The Big Damn Replica, has been painstakingly crafted to be absolutely screen-accurate in every aspect. Unlike most other iconic ships from science fiction, Serenity was designed from the ground up to be as realistic as possible, from her floor planto her construction, using real-world components andmanufacturing processes.  As one of her creators observed, the idea was to make Serenity so real, fans could easily imagine themselves walking her decks. With such a sense of place and familiarity, viewers would never feel lost in this Firefly-Class Transport.

The model will be at Comic Con all weekend, but you can sign up for the waiting list to buy one at the link. (Quantum Mechanix)
